As our Tooling and Automation Engineer, you’ll help teams move faster, collaborate better and deliver great service by designing automation that genuinely makes a difference. You’ll translate business needs into practical, scalable tooling solutions - combining Atlassian expertise with modern automation platforms to improve workflows across Technology and beyond.
The Role
What You’ll Be Doing
- Administer and optimise Jira Software and Jira Service Management
- Design, build and maintain workflows, screens, issue types, schemes and permission models
- Own Jira Automation rules (complex, scalable, maintainable)
- Improve ITSM workflows (incident, problem, change, request)
- Improve engineering workflows (scrum, kanban, release management)
- Maintain clean project structures and governance standards
- Build dashboards and reporting that leadership actually uses
- Integrate Jira with tools such as Slack, CI/CD pipelines and Microsoft 365
- Support teams with onboarding, best practice and troubleshooting
- Continuously refactor and simplify the Atlassian environment
- Own and develop Jira Assets (CMDB) - structure, object schemas, automation, governance
Location: Hybrid working with occasional travel to our London or Nuneaton hub for collaboration sessions and key meetings.
The Person
What We’re Really Looking For
- Strong hands‑on Jira admin experience (Cloud preferred)
- Deep Jira Service Management knowledge
- Confident with complex workflow design
- Strong Jira Automation capability
- Experience managing permission schemes and governance models
- Comfortable working with REST APIs, JSON and basic scripting
- Understands Agile and ITSM environments in practice, not just theory
- Opinionated about good tooling hygiene
- Pragmatic, fast and solution‑focused
- Real experience implementing and maintaining Jira Assets (CMDB)
Bonus if you’ve
- Cleaned up Jira instances before
- Led a Jira consolidation or migration
- Integrated Jira into Slack or CI/CD workflows
