The Opportunity
We’re looking for an Assistant Quarry Manager to join our team at Back Lane Quarry, Carnforth. This is a quarry with development plans for the long term, with plans to grow you’ll have a real opportunity to impact the growth of this site and build your career with it. Reporting to the Quarry Manager, you’ll partner with another Assistant Quarry Manager to oversee site operations, working a shift of 8-5 Monday to Friday with 1 Saturday in 3 and acting as 8.1d when required, you’ll support a site of roughly 20. Providing hands-on leadership across both mobile and fixed plant equipment. This is a great opportunity for someone with quarry management experience, or a supervisor ready to step into management and develop their career in a growing operation.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Acting as 8.1d in the absence of the Quarry Manager, ensuring safe and compliant operations.
- Supporting the Works Manager to maintain production targets, quality standards, and financial performance.
- Leading the workforce, including training, development, performance management, and recruitment.
- Overseeing plant and equipment, both mobile and fixed, ensuring safe operation and effective maintenance.
- Implementing and monitoring Health & Safety, Environmental, and operational policies on site.
- Coordinating with processing, distribution, and commercial teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Investigating incidents, implementing corrective actions, and reporting findings to management.
Who You Are
- Experienced in quarry operations or a supervisor ready to step into management.
- SHEA qualification or equivalent.
- MPQC Geotechnical qualification and IOSH/ NEBOSH would be desirable.
- Knowledgeable of Quarry Regulations, Health & Safety, and operational compliance.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and results-oriented, with excellent planning and organisational skills.
- A confident leader, able to motivate a team and work hands-on across mobile and fixed plant.
- Adaptable to shift work, including occasional weekends, and comfortable in a growing operational environment.
