Looking for a hands-on engineering role where you’ll work with serious kit in a truly iconic location? Join us as a Preventative Maintenance Technician at our flagship Bardon Hill Super Quarry - one of only three super quarries in the UK and a vital player in our national operations. You’ll be part of a tight-knit 24/7 maintenance team that keeps this high-output site running safely, reliably, and efficiently.

This role is about more than just fixing breakdowns. You’ll focus on forward-thinking, preventative maintenance delivering improvements, spotting issues before they occur, and keeping downtime to a minimum. All while supporting one of the most advanced and strategically important quarries in the country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out all aspects of mechanical maintenance, inspection, and testing across fixed and mobile plant equipment.
  • Focus on planned preventative maintenance to improve reliability, reduce breakdowns, and extend equipment life.
  • Use root cause analysis to propose cost-effective, right-first-time solutions that benefit safety and site performance.
  • Support workplace organisation and continuous improvement.
  • Help develop and implement safe systems of work, including risk assessments and permits.
  • Contribute to the site's Integrated Management System (IMS), keeping technical literature and records up to date.
  • Take part in structural assessments and installation works, acting as an Isolation Controller when required.
  • Be ready to react when the unexpected happens.

Who You Are

  • A time-served mechanical engineer with relevant qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Experienced in industrial plant maintenance ideally within a quarrying, mining, or heavy industry environment.
  • Physically fit and ready to get hands-on in a demanding site environment.
  • Confident working independently or as part of a collaborative team.
  • Committed to safe working practices and contributing to a zero-harm culture.
  • Capable of using IT systems for maintenance records and comfortable following structured procedures.
