The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Managing Estimator to lead and develop our Estimating function within the Civils and Sports business units. This is a senior, influential role where you will shape estimating strategy, drive commercial performance, and lead a high-performing team delivering competitive, high-quality tenders across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects. You will play a critical role in supporting strategic growth, managing commercial risk, and ensuring estimating excellence across complex, high-value schemes.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing the Estimating team, embedding best practice, consistency, and high standards.
  • Allocating estimating resources effectively across multiple concurrent tenders.
  • Establishing and maintaining robust estimating SOPs to ensure compliance and consistency.
  • Overseeing the preparation of accurate, competitive cost estimates for large and complex Civils and Sports infrastructure projects.
  • Reviewing and approving final tender submissions in line with commercial strategy and risk appetite.
  • Developing and maintaining cost norms, unit rates, and supplier and subcontractor pricing databases.
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities within tenders and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Supporting bid/no-bid decisions through data-driven financial and commercial analysis.
  • Conducting post-tender reviews to improve estimating accuracy, methodology, and competitiveness.
  • Building strong relationships with supply chain partners to secure value, innovation, and competitive pricing.
  • Managing front-end commercial and legal activity associated with bids and tenders.
  • Ensuring estimating activities contribute to achieving budgeted revenue and margin targets.
  • Supporting wider business objectives through innovative thinking and continuous improvement.

What you'll bring

  • Estimating experience within Civil Engineering and Infrastructure, including senior or management-level responsibility.
  • Strong background delivering complex infrastructure tenders, with sports infrastructure experience highly advantageous.
  • Degree or HND/HNC in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Expert knowledge of estimating software such as Causeway, Candy, CostX, and strong Excel capability.
  • Solid understanding of NEC, JCT, and other standard forms of contract.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including P&L awareness, value engineering, and risk management.
  • Proven leadership capability with experience building, motivating, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex commercial information to senior stakeholders.
  • A structured, analytical, and proactive approach to managing workload and priorities.
