The Opportunity
Ready to take your mechanical skills to the next level on a site like no other? Join Holcim UK as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer at our Ashington facility - a truly unique site in the North East, home to a one-of-a-kind dry grinder system not found anywhere else in the UK. This is a hands-on role where your engineering knowledge and problem-solving mindset will keep our high-performance automated production lines operating at their best. From hydraulic presses to packaging lines, you'll work on a wide range of specialist machinery with the full backing of a supportive team and global business. This will be working on a double days rotation with week 1 being 06:00 - 14:00 Monday to Friday and week 2 being 14:00 - 12:00 midnight Monday to Thursday.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve faults during breakdowns on a variety of automated plant equipment, including hydraulic presses, conveyors, grinding machines, and packaging systems.
- Complete scheduled maintenance tasks via our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Use root cause analysis to identify ways to reduce downtime and improve equipment performance.
- Support and lead on continuous improvement projects to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance activities and work closely with the wider site team to maintain production flow.
Who You Are
- A time-served mechanical fitter with NVQ Level 3 or equivalent technical qualifications.
- Skilled in welding and fabrication, and comfortable reading mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings.
- A strong communicator and team player with a great safety mindset.
- Flexible, organised, and ready to roll up your sleeves to get the job done right.
- Experience in automated or heavy industrial environments is a plus.
- An HNC in Mechanical Engineering is desirable but not essential.
