This is a hands‑on role where you’ll play a key part in maintaining and improving the reliability of our vehicle fleet, supporting the growth and development of other HGV Mechanics on site.

We’re looking for a skilled HGV Mechanic to work on a mixed fleet of tipper and grab trucks, carrying out everything from routine servicing through to diagnostics and MOT preparation work, ensuring all vehicles are safe, compliant and ready for operation.

You’ll be responsible for keeping our fleet operating efficiently, minimising downtime and ensuring all maintenance is completed to a high standard. As a senior member of the team, you’ll also support best practice across the workshop and contribute to continuous improvement.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs across a fleet of tipper and grab trucks
  • Preparing vehicles for MOT inspections, ensuring compliance with all legal and safety standards
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs to minimise downtime
  • Completing both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repair work
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with Health & Safety and DVSA standards
  • Maintaining accurate service records, inspection sheets and maintenance documentation
  • Supporting fleet reliability by identifying recurring issues and recommending improvements
  • Working closely with operations and logistics teams to ensure vehicle availability
  • Ensuring workshop tools, equipment and working areas are maintained to a high standard
  • Supporting and mentoring junior fitters or apprentices where required
What You’ll Bring
  • Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician, ideally in a similar fleet environment
  • Strong knowledge of HGV maintenance, servicing and repair, including hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Experience working on tipper and grab trucks – experience with Volvo and Scania trucks would be beneficial but not essential
  • Solid understanding of MOT preparation and vehicle compliance standards
  • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
  • A proactive and solution‑focused approach to maintenance
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. NVQ/City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent)
