About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer with strong expertise in RPG IV (RPGLE) and Infinite i, who has proven, hands-on experience migrating applications from IBM i (Infinite i / AS400 / iSeries) environments onto Linux-based systems.
You will be a key part of a major system modernisation project, helping to deliver a smooth and successful migration of critical business applications from legacy IBM platforms to modern Linux environments, while ensuring performance, stability and reliability throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of applications from IBM i (Infinite i / AS400 / iSeries) platforms onto Linux-based systems.
- Analyse and refactor existing RPG IV and COBOL code as needed to run on the Linux platform.
- Design and implement data conversion and integration strategies to ensure seamless functionality across platforms.
- Collaborate with internal development and infrastructure teams to plan and execute migration phases.
- Conduct system testing, validation and performance tuning following migration.
- Produce detailed technical documentation and assist with handover to internal teams.
- Troubleshoot and resolve migration-related issues promptly to minimise disruption.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 5 yearsβ experience in software development or systems engineering.
- Proven, hands-on experience migrating or porting applications from IBM i (Infinite i / AS400 / iSeries) to Linux environments β this is essential.
- Advanced knowledge of RPG IV / RPGLE and COBOL programming.
- Practical experience with Infinite i or IBM i / AS400 platforms.
- Strong understanding of CL (Control Language) and IBM i system operations.
- Solid knowledge of databases (DB2 / SQL) and Linux-based database systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and deliver to tight project timescales.
