We're looking for an ambitious Technical Sales Engineer who wants to build a long-term career within the lifting equipment industry. This is not a traditional sales role. We're looking for someone who enjoys understanding engineering challenges, building long-term customer relationships and developing practical lifting solutions. Whether you already have experience within the lifting industry or have a strong engineering background and are looking to develop your commercial career, Hoist UK offers structured training, technical mentoring and a clear progression pathway.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to move into technical sales, or an experienced Technical Sales Engineer looking to develop their knowledge within the lifting equipment industry.

About the Role

Our enquiries range from straightforward hoists and lifting equipment through to bespoke overhead crane systems and engineered lifting solutions, providing a varied and technically rewarding role. You'll work closely with customers to understand their requirements, carry out site surveys, develop practical lifting solutions, prepare technical quotations and costings, and take ownership of enquiries through to receipt of the customer's purchase order. Following receipt of an order, projects are handed over to our operations team, allowing you to focus on developing new opportunities and supporting existing customers. As your knowledge and experience grow, you'll be supported to develop into a trusted technical adviser capable of independently surveying customer requirements, specifying lifting equipment, preparing costings and quotations, and negotiating technically complex projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding customer applications and developing practical lifting solutions.
  • Carrying out customer site surveys.
  • Preparing budget estimates, technical quotations and proposals.
  • Preparing accurate costings.
  • Managing enquiries from initial contact through to receipt of the customer's purchase order.
  • Following up quotations and negotiating orders.
  • Building long-term relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Developing existing customer relationships and identifying new opportunities within Hoist UK's extensive customer base.
  • Identifying opportunities for inspections, servicing and replacement equipment.
  • Working closely with our Operations Team to ensure a smooth handover following order placement.
  • Maintaining accurate customer records within our CRM system.
  • Regular travel to customer sites throughout the UK using Company provided transport.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • A strong engineering background with good mechanical and/or electrical understanding.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to understand customer applications and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to understand engineering applications and prepare accurate technical quotations and costings, or demonstrate the aptitude to develop these skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK for customer meetings and site surveys.
  • Self-motivated with a genuine interest in engineering and solving technical problems.

Desirable

  • Experience within the lifting equipment industry.
  • Experience within technical sales or applications engineering.
  • Knowledge of overhead cranes, hoists or lifting equipment.
  • Experience interpreting engineering specifications and customer requirements.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Experience carrying out customer site surveys.
  • Experience using CRM systems.

Hoist UK is committed to developing its people. We provide structured technical and commercial training together with mentoring and support to help you develop both your engineering knowledge and your commercial skills.
