THE ENVIRONMENT

Hogs Haven Golf Club is an extraordinary new private members' golf club nestled in the hills overlooking the ancient city of St Andrews. Intent on offering unrivalled personal experiences, the club will provide members and their guests with world-class golf, exceptional accommodation, elevated F&B, spa and a welcoming home-from-home from which to explore the stunning golf courses, sightseeing and hospitality in the surrounding East Neuk of Fife and beyond.

THE FINANCE TEAM

The Finance team are involved in a wide range of activities, ranging from day-to-day financial management to playing a role in formulating the organisation's financial strategy. We provide support to the Hogs Haven Managers, Directors and staff who are responsible for delivering exceptional service to our members and their guests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership
    • Leading, coaching and mentoring of Finance Assistants and their work, whose cumulative duties cover Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Revenue recognition, Payroll (currently outsourced) and Treasury.
  • Strategy, planning & performance
    • Lead medium and long-term financial planning, annual budgeting, and multiyear forecasting (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow).
    • Translate strategy into measurable financial objectives and KPIs for each business unit; challenge assumptions and optimise ROI across capex and opex.
    • Drive continuous improvement in margin, cash generation and productivity; provide scenario planning and sensitivity analysis for strategic decisions.
    • Partner with the Finance Director and senior leadership to evaluate growth opportunities, investments, pricing, and products.
    • Build a finance calendar for budgeting, reporting, and compliance deadlines.
    • Support development of the club's pricing models, financial forecasting, and membership accounting framework.
  • Financial control, reporting & insight
    • Support the Director of Finance with overseeing financial management of the project budget, including tracking construction spend, contractor payments, and professional fees.
    • Own monthly results lock and management reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness and clarity of results, with commentary and variance analysis.
    • Deliver high quality board packs, ensuring transparent performance narratives.
    • Accountable for the preparation of year end statutory accounts.
    • Maintain strong financial controls (treasury, tax compliance, financial reporting, UK GDPR, company risk management and cyber security), reconciliations, and policies; oversee treasury, working capital and cash management.
    • Build and implement financial systems, policies, and controls appropriate for both development and operational stages.
    • Establish and maintain the Fixed Asset Register.
    • Responsibility for integrity of balance sheet, ensuring timely and accurate monthly reconciliations.
    • Ensure finance systems and data architecture support reliability and timely analytics.
    • Accountable for company payroll (currently outsourced) and associated monthly and annual returns.
  • Governance, compliance & risk
    • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP (FRS 102), Companies Act 2006, HMRC (including VAT), PAYE/NIC and statutory filings, UK GDPR.
    • Support the Director of Finance on risk management for financial risks; maintain risk registers, internal controls and delegated authorities.
    • Liaise with external auditors; manage audit readiness, deliverables and remediation plans.
    • Manage insurance cover across the company.
  • Business relationships
    • Manage and cultivate relationships with the company bankers, external auditors, tax advisors, insurers, IT contractor and HMRC.
  • Business partnering & leadership
    • Act as a trusted adviser to the Director of Finance and senior leadership team; provide clear recommendations backed by data and commercial judgement.
    • Build a high performing finance function; coach, develop and set clear objectives for all direct reports.
    • Champion cross functional collaboration to enable high-quality decisions.
    • Communicate complex financial matters simply to non-finance stakeholders; promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Finance systems, process excellence & transformation
    • Support the Director of Finance with the finance roadmap for systems, automation and reporting.
    • Introduce digital tools to streamline invoice processing, budgeting and forecasting.
    • Ensure robust budgeting timetables and templates are communicated and adhered to across departments.
    • Lead change programmes that improve productivity, reduce manual effort and strengthen governance.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are seeking a dynamic and detail orientated leader who possesses the 'service gene' and is keen to deliver the highest levels of internal service to our wider teams.

Essential experience

  • Senior finance leadership (Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Financial Accountant) – minimum two years' experience.
  • Leading, mentoring and developing finance teams.
  • Experience managing complex budgets and financial modelling in a pre-opening or capital project environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to build financial infrastructure from the ground up.
  • Previous management of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Treasury.
  • Proven ownership of budgeting, forecasting, cash management and board-level reporting.
  • Track record of strengthening controls, improving month end lock cycles, and delivering actionable commercial insight.
  • Proficiency with financial systems implementation and technology platforms.
  • Managing external audits and statutory reporting under UK GAAP.

Desirable experience

  • Proven experience in a senior finance role within hospitality or member-based operations.
  • ERP systems transformation (e.g., Access EVO or similar), BI/visualisation and data governance.

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA / ACA or international equivalent).
  • Evidence of CPD and leadership training.
  • The selected candidate must have the right to work in the UK.
