About us: Hogbens Chartered Surveyors is a family-run, RICS-regulated surveying practice based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. We work with residential and commercial clients across Cheshire, The High Peak, Stockport, South Manchester and the surrounding areas. Since incorporation in May 2013, Hogbens has grown steadily and has built a strong reputation for technical rigour, personalised service and practical, no-nonsense advice. We provide a range of services including RICS Home Surveys Level 1, 2 and 3, commercial building surveys, roof inspections, project management and specialist property consultancy.

The role: We are looking for full-time Residential Property Surveyors to join the team and help us grow into new operating areas. This role would suit someone who wants more than simply a standard surveying position. We are looking for surveyors who would be happy to help establish and develop Hogbens in a new area, supported by an established business, a strong sales team and a clear marketing strategy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carrying out residential property inspections, including RICS Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 surveys.
  • Preparing clear, concise and well-structured written reports.
  • Identifying building defects, including damp, movement, roof defects, poor alterations, maintenance issues and other property-related risks.
  • Providing practical advice to clients on condition, repair implications, future maintenance and potential next steps.
  • Explaining technical issues to clients in clear, accessible language.
  • Managing your own schedule and meeting agreed report turnaround times.
  • Helping Hogbens establish and grow its presence in new geographical areas.
  • Liaising with colleagues on technical matters, project work and quality assurance.
  • Maintaining compliance with RICS standards, guidance and professional expectations.
  • Using modern survey equipment and technology where appropriate.

About you: We are looking for someone who is technically capable, approachable and genuinely interested in property. You should have strong building surveying skills, ideally with experience in residential building surveying across a range of property types. Client service is central to how we work. We place strong emphasis on customer relationships, clear communication and understanding each client’s concerns.

Essential requirements:

  • Strong residential surveying and building pathology knowledge.
  • Experience carrying out residential surveys across a range of property types.
  • Excellent written reporting skills.
  • Good client-facing communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across the firm’s operating area.

What we offer: Starting salary from £50,000 per annum dependent on experience. On-target earnings around £65,000 per annum. Achievable bonus structure linked to revenue generated. Hybrid working, with a mix of site inspections and home, local office or Macclesfield office-based reporting. Supportive working environment. Training, development and upskilling wherever possible.
