What does a Procedural Lighting & Look Dev Supervisor do at Hogarth? Proceduralism relies on broken down published components, logical structures and parameters to construct CGI at scale with code rather than manual effort. Procedural Supervisors will be responsible for overseeing the creation and development of these conventions. This role involves working closely with Python developers to define procedural specifications for surfacing, lighting and rendering systems, including shading, lighting, rendering and scene compositing.
Responsibilities:- Shading and Look Development: Define and build procedural systems for creating and applying shaders to assets. Create and fine-tune shaders, integrate textures, and provide tools for manual adjustments of lookdev parameters.
- Lighting: Design and implement lighting setups for scenes, assets, and environments. Specify lighting parameters and ensure the proper integration of lights into the pipeline.
- Procedural Specifications: Collaborate with Python developers to establish clear specifications for how the procedural system should function, covering asset shading, lighting setups, and scene rendering using publishing and dependency.
- Rendering and Compositing: Oversee the rendering process, ensuring the scene is lit with realism and the final output is in line with artistic and technical requirements. Supervise the compositing of rendered elements into the final image or sequence.
Reporting lines and Key Stakeholders: This role reports to the Global Head of VFX and will work closely with all our global CGI/VFX teams.
Requirements:- Strong understanding of shading, lighting, rendering and compositing workflows.
- Proficiency in Python scripting for procedural tools and pipeline integration.
- Demonstrable experience in lighting and rendering within 3D environments in a mature pipeline.
- Ability to communicate complex technical requirements to Python developers and other technical teams.
- Hands on – No egos here. Just a shared drive to roll up our sleeves and make great things happen. Every project—big or small—gets our full energy because we believe in doing things right. Every single time.
- Honesty – We are real and authentic – with each other and in our work. Honest, direct communication builds the trust we need to collaborate, grow, and make meaningful things together.
- Heart & Soul – We bring heart to everything we make. Passion, pride and relentless drive push us beyond "good enough"—because we care deeply about our craft, and we're always chasing better.
- Happy Family – Creating a space where everyone feels valued— even when opinions differ—makes this a supportive and inclusive environment for our people.
- Hungry – Curiosity keeps us hungry. We question, experiment, and always seek out what's next. We never settle, and we never stop learning.
