Department Description

We have a well-established global M&BD team, which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, marketing and client relationship management activities. The team is divided into a number of key areas: including practice M&BD, clients and markets covering industry M&BD, pitches and pursuits, which manage strategic global and regional pitches; corporate communications, which comprises public relations, brand, design, events, and digital; and campaigns and projects. There are also regional M&BD teams in the Americas, Continental Europe, Asia and South Africa with who this role will interact.

Infrastructure, Energy, Resources and Projects (IERP)

Forming part of the firm\’s global Corporate & Finance Practice Group, IERP covers all transactional aspects of a project\’s lifespan including greenfield development, PPPs, M&A, financing, secondary market transactions, refinancing, restructuring, distressed assets and funds. Our dedicated team works on the largest global projects.

Role Overview

We need a capable and enthusiastic M&BD adviser to support the UK IERP practice and wider M&BD Corporate & Finance team. They will play an important role supporting a forward thinking practice area who are involved in some of the world’s largest and most exciting global projects, with the opportunity to work with partners to help develop and implement their M&BD plans, and also be responsible for the day to day activities of the practice.

The role will encompass the full range of business development and marketing activities including: pitching, credentials and other marketing collateral; client/sector and competitor analysis; client targeting and cross-selling; profile raising and marketing campaigns including communications such as directory submissions, deal reporting, online content (intranet, newsletters and hoganlovells.com), and BD evaluation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Pitching, Targeting and Pursuits

  • Acting as the lead for pitches and opportunities for the UK IERP practice, including writing proposals and credentials and ensuring best practice methodology is applied. Also working closely with, and drawing support from, the Energy & Infrastructure sector teams in relation to opportunities.

  • Write and produce other bespoke materials, including client presentations.

  • Advising partners and teams on new business and cross-selling opportunities, and provide support on the development of our approach, team, proposition, research and supporting materials.

  • Collate and maintain information on the firm wide Global Pitch System (Foundation); monitor success rates and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Act as a \’horizon spotter\’ for the IERP team to identify new opportunities and trends and provide timely information to lawyers.

  • Undertaking and maintaining post-pitch feedback where appropriate.

Client targeting and development

  • Supporting the IERP practice on client targeting initiatives and analysis.

  • Help the practice on client relationship management initiatives, including acting as a \’Client Account Manager\’ for some of IERP’s priority clients.

Profile raising and marketing campaigns

  • Co-ordinate client events/seminars/webinars in conjunction with the Events team and Knowledge Lawyers, acting as an \’Account Coordinator\’ for internal clients, and including full and effective use of the firm’s event email marketing system (iPublish).

  • Draft, review and update practice area entries in directories, award submissions and legal supplements.

  • Contribute to the firm\’s deal reporting process, ensuring Hogan Lovells is accurately represented in across various industry league tables.

  • Support in the production of other internal and external marketing communications including presentations, brochures, internal and external alerts, newsletters and web copy.

  • Liaise and collaborate with other M&BD teams including Practice Groups, Industry Sectors and PR to cross-sell capabilities and credentials including proactively coordinating with PR to raise the profile of individual partners and propositions.

  • Support the M&BD team in thought leadership campaigns including liaising with our design agencies, drafting and publishing content.

  • Supporting with social media posts and monitoring performance and engagement data (LinkedIn, Twitter, ClearView Social).

Wider BD projects

  • Contribute to the wider M&BD effort, which will include participating in specific firm-wide M&BD initiatives and projects, as required.

  • Deal with ad hoc enquiries about the practice areas or its clients from other parts of the firm or members of the M&BD team.

  • Any other tasks that may reasonably be required.

Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.

Qualifications and Training

  • Strong experience working in a marketing & business development role in a legal or similar professional services firm.

  • Experience in pitching and managing the pitch process.

  • Able to think strategically and commercially.

  • Excellent operational and project management skills.

Desired:

  • Prior knowledge and experience of Energy and Infrastructure and Project Finance would be advantageous.
