We have a well‑established global M&BD and Communications team, which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, client relationship management and reputational activities. The team is divided into several key areas including Practice M&BD, Sector M&BD, Client Development and Industry M&BD, Corporate Communications, which comprises Public Relations, Brand, Design, Events, and Digital; Pitches, Pursuits and Business Intelligence; and M&BD Operations & Systems.
Working Hours: 35 hours per week, 9:30am to 5:30pm but additional hours may be required. We are happy to consider agile and flexible working patterns. Our approach to hybrid working allows for up to 40% of time working from home and 60% working in the office.
Role Overview: We need a capable and enthusiastic adviser to support the M&BD Managers and BD and marketing activities for the Corporate transactional practice. This will include working with our M&A, Private Equity (including Secondaries, Growth Equity & Venture Capital) and Investment Funds teams – a broad remit across some fast‑paced and exciting areas of law. The role will encompass the full range of business development and marketing activities including:
- Client targeting and cross‑selling
- Pitching, credentials and other marketing collateral
- Event management
- Client/sector and competitor analysis
- Profile raising and marketing campaigns including communications such as directory submissions, deal reporting, online content (intranet and hoganlovells.com), and BD evaluation and reporting
Key Responsibilities:
- Pitching: Coordinate pitches and promote pitching best practice. This will also involve working with the Global Pitch Team and other Practice, Sector and Regional M&BD team members, providing relevant practice input to other pitches and credentials. Support the broader global M&BD practice teams with practice group information and credentials requests. Working with M&BD practice area leads to develop and maintain strong standard credentials and bespoke materials, including client presentations. Collate and maintain information on the firm wide Global Pitch System (SalesForce); monitor success rates and make recommendations for improvements. Identify, undertake and maintain post pitch feedback where appropriate.
- Client targeting and development: Work with the practices on client targeting initiatives and analysis. Help the practices on client relationship management initiatives.
- Infrastructure and marketing systems: Collate information and maintain deal information, pitches/proposals, credentials, intranet/web content, etc. Maintain and regularly analyse key M&BD information systems and library of materials centrally including the pitch log, intranet, hoganlovells.com, credentials, IntroHive and Finance Hub. Liaise and work closely with the Knowledge Lawyers to leverage know how and identify appropriate communications and M&BD opportunities through our knowledge and thought leadership platform – Our Thinking. Encourage full and effective use of the firm’s CRM database (InterAction). Provide input and support on the firm’s experience management platform (Foundation).
- Marketing campaigns and profile raising: Co‑ordinate client events/seminars/webinars/podcasts in conjunction with the Events team and Knowledge Lawyers, acting as an 'Account Coordinator' for internal clients, and including full and effective use of the firm’s event email marketing system (iPublish). Draft, review and update practice area entries in directories, award submissions and legal supplements. Contribute to the firm's deal reporting process, ensuring Hogan Lovells is accurately represented in Mergermarket, Bloomberg and LSEG league tables. Write, edit and produce marketing communications including credentials statements, presentations, brochures, internal and external alerts, newsletters, Corporate LinkedIn posts, event invitations and web copy. Liaise and collaborate with other M&BD teams including Practice Groups, Industry Sectors and PR to cross‑sell capabilities and credentials including proactively coordinating with PR to raise the profile of individual partners and propositions. Support the M&BD team in thought leadership campaigns including liaising with our design agencies, drafting and publishing content.
- Wider BD projects: Contribute to wider Corporate & Finance Practice Group and M&BD projects, which will include participating in specific firm-wide M&BD initiatives and projects, as required. Deal with ad hoc enquiries about the practice areas or its clients from other parts of the firm or members of the M&BD team. Any other tasks that may reasonably be required.

Essential:
- Three to five years of relevant experience.
- Previous experience in working in a business development/marketing environment.
- A solid understanding of the commercial world and its drivers.
- A solid understanding of marketing and business development processes.
- A keen interest in self‑development and bags of initiative.
- A proactive team player with a 'can do attitude'.
- Ability to create a positive impact with colleagues, peers, partners and clients and to demonstrate diplomacy, listening and influencing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail, in particular excellent proof‑reading skills, and the ability to write in a compelling way, and confidence in communicating with all levels of the firm.
- Effective project management skills including the ability to plan ahead and prioritise conflicting demands to meet deadlines for the team.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- An understanding of the firm’s business and marketplace.
- Experience of, and comfortable in, a partnership or equivalent professional services environment.
Desired:
- A relevant marketing or sales qualification, such as the CIM or equivalent.
- Prior knowledge and experience of working in a law firm and/or in a corporate practice role would be advantageous.
- A general understanding of the legal market (in terms of key players and product areas) to aid familiarity with terminology and to add as much value as possible when talking with partners.
