Department: Litigation, Arbitration and Employment

Office Location: London

Working Hours: 35 hours per week, 9:30am to 5:30pm but additional hours may be required. We are happy to consider agile and flexible working patterns. Our approach to hybrid working allows for up to 40% of time working from home and 60% working in the office.

Firm Description: Hogan Lovells is one of the leading global law firms. Our distinctive market position is founded on our exceptional breadth of our practice, on deep industry knowledge, and on our 'one team' global approach. Formed through the combination of two top international law firms, Hogan Lovells has over 40 offices in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. With a presence in the world's major financial and commercial markets, we are well placed to provide excellent business-oriented advice to our clients locally and internationally. Our people are the key to our success, which is why we seek to recruit and retain the most talented individuals in all regions of our global practice.

Department and Role: The Hogan Lovells disputes practice in London is market-leading, recognised as a "Band 1" practice by both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 across multiple categories, including Commercial and Corporate Litigation, Fraud: Civil and Product Liability: Mainly Defendant. Our clients span a wide range of industry sectors and geographies, and we advise on a wide range of disputes, which extend from investigations through litigation to arbitration and employment disputes. Invariably, these cases are complex, high value and often cross-border in nature. A feature of many of these cases is the need for us to assist and advise our clients on preserving, collecting, processing, reviewing, and disclosing large volumes of documents. As a result, we are looking to recruit a Senior Knowledge Lawyer to provide dedicated, specialist support to the practice when handling all aspects of the disclosure lifecycle. The role will be a dynamic one, with significant scope for self-starting and initiative. It will involve working across teams and in a wide variety of contexts, but the focus will be the conduct of substantial document retrieval and review exercises, which will often but not always conclude with a disclosure process.

The role will involve a combination of:

  • Subject matter expertise (acquiring, staying up to date with, and then bringing to bear specialist knowledge of all the facets of the disclosure process and disclosure "best practice");
  • Support on client matters (supporting individual case/client teams by providing assistance and project management support as necessary throughout the disclosure process);
  • Knowledge management (ensuring that experience and expertise is centrally maintained and accessible by all members of the practice).

The role would particularly suit an experienced disputes lawyer looking for a new challenge combining a knowledge/professional support lawyer role with the opportunity to continue to contribute to client work.

Person Specification:

Qualifications & Training Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience at a leading firm in its disputes practice.
  • Significant experience of conducting disclosure in the Courts of England and Wales.
  • Familiarity with at least some of the standard technology used for disclosure.

Technical and Personal Skills:

  • Strong technical legal skills, extending to disclosure rules and caselaw.
  • Enthusiasm for all aspects of the disclosure process and willingness to upskill where necessary.
  • Strong affinity for disclosure technology, including database operation, technology assisted review, artificial intelligence, dedicated disclosure platforms, etc.
  • Desire to build out a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all available technology.
  • Strong project management skills to help teams stay on timetable and meet deadlines.
  • Dynamic, self-starter, energetic and enthusiastic.
  • Works to a high standard, showing sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Effectively prioritises and manages own time.
  • Highly developed organisational ability.
  • Takes ownership of projects and tasks and progresses them independently.
  • Able to work under pressure and remain focused.

Agile Working Statement: Our goal is to embed flexibility across our business by giving everyone the opportunity to work in an agile way, whether as a regular pattern or on an ad hoc basis, and we will be happy to discuss this further.

Equal Opportunities Employment Statement: It is the policy of Hogan Lovells to provide equal opportunities for all employees in relation to recruitment, training and promotion. Decisions in these areas will be made only by reference to the requirements of the job and shall not be influenced by any consideration of racial or ethnic origin, religion, sex, gender and gender identity, age, sexual orientation, marital and civil partnership status, pregnancy or disability.
