We have a well-established global Marketing and Business Development (M&BD) team, which supports the firm on a wide range of business development, marketing and client relationship management activities. The team is divided into several key areas: practice M&BD, clients and sectors, pitches and pursuits, which manage strategic global and regional pitches; corporate communications, which comprises public relations, brand, design, events, and digital; and campaigns and projects.
Our approach to hybrid working allows for up to 40% of time working from home and 60% working in the office. This role is located in our London office and supports partners across our network of offices. Working hours are 35 hours per week, 9:30am to 5:30pm, with the possibility of additional hours. We are happy to consider agile and flexible working patterns. Details about the precise working pattern can be discussed with the recruitment team.
Role overview: The role encompasses the full range of M&BD activities including pitching, producing credentials and other marketing collateral; client targeting and cross-selling; client/sector and competitor analysis; and profile raising through marketing campaigns including events, communications and directory and awards submissions. This candidate will work closely with other members of our global M&BD team to ensure suitable support for firm and sector priorities. Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services. All members of the firm participate in our Responsible Business program.
Responsibilities
- Business Development Planning and Analysis: Support the global sector leadership on strategic business development plans and integrated campaigns. Work with partners to develop and implement BD activities in accordance with proposed plans and budgets.
- Pitching, Targeting and New Business Generation: Coordinate pitches and help partners and teams prepare for presentations, including drafting pitches, proposals and credentials whilst ensuring the best practice pitch approach is applied. Produce other bespoke materials, including client presentations and standard marketing materials as required. Collate and maintain information on the firm-wide Global Pitch system and Experience Management system (Foundation); monitor success rates and make recommendations for improvements. Undertake and maintain post pitch feedback where appropriate.
- Client Targeting and Development: Support the M&I sector on delivery and execution of the sector business plan. Development and delivery of specific client targeting initiatives and analysis. Client relationship management initiatives and client listening programmes. Building and managing relationships with key industry bodies in the sector.
- Marketing Campaigns, Thought Leadership and Profile Raising: Identify opportunities, both external and internal, in which the sector partners could participate to support their client and business development objectives. Coordinate and oversee client events (both physical and virtual) in conjunction with the Events team and professional support lawyers. Act as an 'Account Coordinator' for internal clients, including full and effective use of the firm's event email marketing system (iPublish). Draft, review and update relevant entries in directories and award submissions. Manage social media posts and monitoring performance and engagement data (LinkedIn, Twitter, ClearView Social). Support in the production of other internal and external marketing communications including capability statements, presentations, brochures, internal and external alerts, newsletters and web copy. Collaborate with other M&BD to cross-sell capabilities and credentials.
- Internal Communication and Knowledge Sharing: Ensure an efficient framework for internal reporting and communication of sector activities and successes, including the provision of information for wider management reporting. Work closely with the partners and Knowledge Lawyer team to leverage know-how and promote sector capabilities across the firm, including through newsletters and the intranet. Help raise awareness across the firm of the priorities and capabilities of the M&I sector.
- Infrastructure and Marketing Systems: Collate and maintain matter information for pitches/proposals, credentials, intranet/web content, etc. Maintain and regularly assess key BD information systems and library of materials including Foundation, the pitch log, intranet pages, hoganlovells.com and credentials.
- Wider BD Projects: Contribute to the wider business development effort, which will include participating in specific firm-wide BD initiatives and projects as required. Contribute to the firm's strategic priorities and broader Future of Manufacturing initiative.
Requirements
- Essential: 2-4 years of relevant experience. Previous experience of working in a marketing and business development role in a professional services firm, or equivalent B2B context.
- Desirable: Interest in and understanding of industries in the Manufacturing and broader Industrials sphere is advantageous. Experience of working in a multinational organisation, assisting stakeholders across regions. Highly motivated and enthusiastic self-starter, able to manage their own workload, with a can-do attitude. Keen interest in learning and self-development and ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative. Solid understanding of the commercial world and its drivers. Ability to create a positive impact with colleagues, partners and clients and to demonstrate strong diplomacy, listening and influencing skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to write in a compelling way. Effective project management skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise conflicting demands to meet tight deadlines. A team player, but able to act autonomously with minimal guidance.
