Department Description

The Communications team amplifies the firm’s value, insights, and overarching commitment to being part of the global elite. In support of the vision and strategy, they drive all elements of profile raising across three key segments – their people, the media, and the market. The team utilises their brand and messaging to tell the Hogan Lovells story, and reinforce Hogan Lovells’ market position as being vital for change.

Within Marketing Communications, the team is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s brand. They are creative problem solvers, visual storytellers, and collaborators across the business. Measurement is key to how they demonstrate impact, and they regularly report to firm leadership on KPIs, priority projects, and milestones.

Role Overview

The Brand & Messaging Senior advisor will work closely with both the Head of Creative Services and the Head of Content on messaging and creative projects as well as brand governance.

The right candidate will bring a solutions-focused approach to brand governance and support the protection, promotion, and evolution of the Hogan Lovells brand. The candidate will be able to write, edit, and think creatively in relation to the brand. This person will collaborate with key internal stakeholders on finding solutions within brand for their business needs, as well as be a special partner to Marketing & Business Development.

The candidate will participate in team meetings, brainstorms, and be an integral member of the global Marketing Communications team.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Be an in-house expert on all aspects of the Hogan Lovells brand.
  • Encourage brand best practices by providing practical, solutions-oriented advice to colleagues across the firm.
  • Oversee all updates to the brand guidelines, messaging handbook, firm writing style guide, etc.
  • Support on all messaging projects for practices, sectors, and internal teams.
  • Develop processes and a strong pipeline for client case studies, including the drafting, coordination, and necessary approvals.
  • Deliver pre-existing, standard brand and messaging trainings across the business, e.g. Brand 101, lawyer bio training, and tone of voice.
  • Draft communications on brand-related programs, rolling out new resources, and related training opportunities, e.g. announcements, FAQs, one-pagers, toolkits.
  • Help review and apply firm messaging across team communications.
  • Brainstorm creative ideas around applying our brand to different programs, platforms, and applications.
  • Partner with key internal teams on brand-related inquiries, e.g. exterior and interior building signage, logo usage, and brand parameters.
  • Support on the development of PowerPoint decks, talking points, and presentations for the Brand Governance Committee and their related workstreams.
  • Champion high brand standards across all internal and external communications through QA checks and input from a messaging standpoint.
  • Suggest new, innovative ways to incorporate interactive, video, and social media platforms into new and ongoing marketing communications.
  • Support team communications with e-comms platform (iPublish).

Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.

Person Specification

Qualifications And Experience

  • BA or BSc in communications or related field.
  • Experience of working in a similar role within a professional services environment, or creative agency.
  • 5-7 year’s experience in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with new tech (AI), DMS, CMS, as well as Adobe suite preferred.

  • Sound judgment in navigating difficult situations.
