The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the maintenance function across bakery and retail operations, ensuring equipment reliability, legal compliance, and minimal operational downtime. The role involves managing a multi-site team, developing planned maintenance strategies, controlling budgets, and driving continuous improvement while maintaining high standards of health, safety, and food safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and motivate the maintenance team, promoting a positive and professional culture
- Plan and deliver effective PPM schedules and respond efficiently to breakdowns
- Ensure compliance with all legislative, engineering, health and safety, and food safety standards
- Support installation, commissioning, and maintenance of new equipment and machinery
- Manage contractors, suppliers, and service partners to ensure quality and compliance
- Support project work including bakery upgrades and retail refits
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and documentation
- Drive continuous improvement to improve efficiency and reduce downtime
- Provide operational cover across bakery and retail sites as required
Skills & Experience
- Strong leadership and people management capability
- Proven experience managing maintenance in a manufacturing, food, or FMCG environment
- Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and time-management skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels
- Technically competent with electrical and mechanical systems
- Confident managing contractors and cross-functional project work
- Proficient with MS Office, Teams, and maintenance/ERP systems
Qualifications
- Time-served, electrically biased multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer
- 17th or 18th Edition Electrical Qualification (essential)
- Experience leading or commissioning engineering projects
- Continuous improvement/lean manufacturing experience (preferred)
- Food Hygiene Certificate (preferred)
- Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Working Safely or equivalent preferred)
