Join a leading global manufacturer of precision-forged and machined components at our Redditch facility. The Manufacturing Engineer will optimise manufacturing processes, improve product quality and production efficiency, and support the introduction of new product initiatives into production.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Analyse, develop and optimise manufacturing processes to maximise quality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness and health and safety.
- Ensure strong process control and capability across the manufacturing function.
- Apply lean manufacturing and industrial engineering techniques such as kaizen, time studies, line balancing and value stream mapping.
- Deliver continuous improvement initiatives targeting quality improvements, productivity gains, right-first-time rates and waste reduction.
- Support the industrialisation of NPI projects, including development of production processes, tooling, work instructions and validation plans.
- Collaborate with design and development teams to ensure seamless transition of new designs into production (DFMA principles).
- Apply APQP to ensure product and process readiness for manufacturing and timely delivery.
- Lead the PPAP process to verify that product designs and manufacturing processes meet specifications and are capable of mass production.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, applying root cause analysis and leading corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) in line with 8D and DMAIC techniques.
- Develop and validate manufacturing tooling.
- Define, document and maintain robust manufacturing process controls, including routings, work instructions and SOPs.
- Ensure all activities comply with aerospace quality standards (AS9100, NADCAP).
Skills and Experience Required
- Extensive experience in a manufacturing, process or production engineering role within machining, forging or fabrication environments.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering (or higher national diploma).
- Strong understanding of process control, capability and statistical tools to validate and monitor production stability.
- Demonstrated leadership in continuous improvement focused on quality, productivity, RFT and waste reduction.
- Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, 8D and DMAIC.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience in process validation, PFMEA, control plans and SPC.
- Good working knowledge of aerospace quality standards (AS9100).
