Overview

Are you ready to make a groundbreaking impact in the world of biotechnology? Hobson Prior is seeking a Scientist to focus on Protein Purification and Biochemistry and support the development of therapeutic proteins. In this role, you will focus on producing and purifying proteins, improving workflows, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to meet project goals. This position requires a hands-on approach to problem-solving and a strong understanding of protein purification techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate recombinant protein expression and purification both in-house and with CROs
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex protein production challenges
  • Drive improvements in protein delivery workflows
  • Collaborate across teams to meet project milestones
  • Lead technical planning with outsourcing partners
  • Identify and onboard new CROs to enhance delivery timelines and efficiency
  • Ensure therapeutic candidates meet development criteria (e.g. reduced immunogenicity, robust purification)
  • Analyse and interpret data to guide decision-making
  • Stay current with scientific and technological advances in the field

Key Skills and Requirements

  • Proficient in protein purification techniques including Protein A, affinity chromatography, and SEC
  • Experienced with biological matrices such as cell lysates and human serum
  • Coordinated protein expression and purification in both CRO and in-house environments
  • Skilled in biochemical assays such as SPR and ELISA
  • Familiar with antibody optimisation strategies
  • Strong understanding of analytical methods for therapeutic proteins: SEC, SDS-PAGE, charge-based assays, and mass spectrometry
  • Knowledgeable in applying SPR techniques to therapeutic antibodies
