The client are a leading global manufacturer of precision-forged and machined components. They are recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineering Lead to join their team in Redditch. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimising manufacturing processes, improving product quality and production efficiency, and supporting the NPI projects into production. The role will also be responsible for leading the manufacturing engineering team within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
- Lead the prioritisation and allocation of manufacturing engineering activities within the business.
- Oversee engineering delivery and ensure solutions are successfully achieved.
- Analyse, develop and optimise manufacturing processes to optimum quality, cost effectiveness and health and safety.
- Drive strong process control and process capability across the manufacturing operations.
- Apply lean manufacturing and industrial engineering optimisation techniques including Kaizen, time studies, line balancing and value stream mapping.
- Lead and deliver continuous improvement targeting quality improvement, production gains, right first time (RFT) and waste reduction.
- Support and execute the NPI projects including development of production process, tooling, work instructions and validation plans.
- Liaise with the design and development team to ensure seamless transition of new designs into production (DFMA principles).
- Apply APQP processes to ensure product and process are ready for manufacture and timely delivery.
- Lead the PPAP to verify that product design and manufacturing process meet required specifications and are capable of volume production.
- Identify, propose and implement process improvements, technology upgrades and manufacturing methods.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, applying structured root cause analysis (RCA) and lead corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) in line with 8D & DMAIC problem solving methodologies.
- Define, document and maintain robust manufacturing process controls including routings, work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Develop and validate manufacturing tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauges and other measurement systems to ensure quality.
- Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with aerospace quality standards (AS9100, NADCAP, customer specific requirements).
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield, scrap, RFT using data to drive fact-based expansion.
Skills And Experience Required
- Strong engineering project management experience with a thorough understanding of the associated tools and techniques.
- Hold engineering team leadership experience in an industrial environment.
- Extensive practical experience in an industrial forgings, machining, fabrication or similar manufacturing engineering role in aerospace defence, automotive or high spec industrial environments.
- Preferably hold a degree or HND in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- Demonstrate experience in leading continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, RFT and waste reduction.
- Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, 8D, DMAIC.
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience in process validation, PFMEA, control plans and SPC.
- Good working knowledge of aerospace quality standards (AS9100).
