We have a brand-new opportunity for a Sustainability Consultant or Senior Sustainability Consultant to join our team, based in either Bristol, Plymouth, or Exeter. It's an exciting time to be part of our broader Sustainability Discipline which has a presence in every Hoare Lea office across the country. We provide a diverse sustainability consultancy service promoting sustainable development for a range of projects, across all sectors. Our Sustainability Discipline is an industry leader in its approach to sustainable design, construction and building operation.

In this key and varied role, you can expect to:

  • Have a focus on and provide expertise in whole life carbon assessments and Circular Economy for the built environment.
  • Develop site specific whole life carbon appraisals using in house tools and OneClick LCA software.
  • Develop site specific BREEAM Mat 01 appraisals.
  • Lead focused workshops with design teams and Clients to guide and agree on whole life carbon targets, strategies to reduce whole life carbon emissions, and strategies to embed Circular Economy as part of design and operational decisions.
  • Lead focused workshops with Contractors to review the whole life carbon assessment and guide them in achieving the agreed targets, undertaking construction stages monitoring and reporting.
  • Lead focused whole life carbon and circular economy workshops with Local Authorities where necessary.
  • Support and/or lead in house Technical Excellence communities in advancing the firm's knowledge in this area.
  • Get involved in other core sustainability consultancy deliverables, including delivery of environmental and wellbeing assessments (such as BREEAM, WELL, HQM, etc) from early design stages through to project completion/post construction.
  • Undertake a range of modelling and assessments, including building performance simulation, operational energy estimates, and overheating.
  • Support and/or lead the development of energy and sustainability strategies with our clients.
  • Support the training of junior members of the team.
  • Opportunity to undertake project leadership for the Discipline on small to medium scale projects.
  • Engage directly with industry, undertaking research and development studies, and authoring industry guidance.

You are likely to have some knowledge and competence in a selection of the following fields:

  • Whole life carbon assessments (including embodied and operational carbon assessment).
  • Core understanding of industry guidance around whole life carbon.
  • Net zero carbon strategies.

Advantageous competencies include:

  • Energy and sustainability strategies for planning and design development.
  • Environmental and wellbeing appraisals/assessments.
  • Energy performance modelling.
  • Delivery of successful planning applications and experience of local authority collaboration.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working within the built environment sector.
  • A degree in engineering/science, and experience in the field.
  • Good communication skills and an enthusiasm for working within a team environment.
  • A passion for creating sustainable solutions.
