We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Associate Engineer to join our Operational Assets team based in our Bristol office. Are you passionate about existing buildings? Do you thrive when challenged to design unique and pragmatic solutions to operational and performance issues? Are you interested in using real‑time data to better understand buildings and drive towards a net‑zero future? It's an exciting time to join our recently formed Operational Assets discipline, merging the skill sets of property consultants, design engineers, and data‑led building performance engineers to provide a rounded and reliable service to our clients, creating value throughout the building lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the day‑to‑day technical delivery of the MEP design services for multi‑disciplinary projects across a number of building sectors.
  • Produce design deliverables including specifications, drawings, and schedules.
  • Provide technical advice to clients on the operation of MEP services in existing buildings.
  • Prepare fee proposals, working with clients to understand their brief.
  • Deliver refurbishment and upgrade projects from inception to completion.
  • Undertake condition surveys of MEP installations and produce written reports and recommendations.
  • Develop roadmaps for building interventions to target Net Zero Carbon performance.
  • Produce feasibility studies for mechanical/electrical infrastructure replacement or upgrade.
  • Carry out technical due diligence reporting.
  • Review development and fit‑out proposals and advise client on the implications in relation to the mechanical services.
  • Interact regularly with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring a communicative, collaborative and timely approach to delivery.
  • Support timely invoicing, debt chasing, management of WIP and forward workload/resource planning for your own and the team’s projects.
  • Mentor and support our next‑gen professionals, including apprentices and graduates.

  • An interest and aptitude in managing a team.
  • Willingness to be involved in industry engagement initiatives – contributing to standards and guidance development, presenting at external events etc.
  • Ability to carry out business development activities as part of their day‑to‑day role, developing existing client relationships to support repeat business and exploring new relationships to expand our reach.
  • Manage the tender of small works capital projects.
  • Provide contract administration services.
  • Write maintenance services tender specifications and manage this process.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working as a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer or in a closely related role, with a track record delivering on a variety of complex projects.
  • Good experience in use of standards and codes applied in building services.
  • At least some experience working on projects in existing buildings.
  • Demonstrable experience working with clients/contractors in a design‑oriented/consultant role.
  • Self‑awareness, an open mind, and a spirit of generosity.
  • Experience in supporting others to develop knowledge, skills, and confidence.
  • Chartered engineer or working toward chartered engineer status.
