Together, our highly skilled teams use technical expertise and problem-solving skills to bring buildings and their energy systems to life. We ensure that whatever the system, its design is outstanding, and its operations meet the needs of the communities it serves.

We are as committed to providing an environment where everyone can realise their unique potential. So, in joining Hoare Lea, you will experience a business that enriches your knowledge, supports your wellbeing, and welcomes your individuality. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in our 9-day fortnight scheme, thriving community groups, varied social and networking events, and extensive professional and technical development schemes. We also offer an extensive benefits package, including private medical cover, electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme, stock options, and up to 30 days of annual leave.

Whatever your ambitions or circumstances, our aim is to enable everyone to develop their knowledge, give their best, and enjoy what they do.

About the team

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Leader (Associate) to join our Advisory & Advocacy (A&A) team. We anticipate that this role will initially require a commitment of 0.6 FTE (three days per week), increasing progressively to 1.0 FTE (full-time) as the role and business requirements develop.

A&A provides bespoke strategic advice to investors, developers and organisations operating in the energy sector and energy-intensive industries. We work alongside clients from the earliest stages of investment and development, helping them navigate complex challenges, manage risk and shape commercially viable, technically deliverable and socially responsive solutions.

Our proposition brings together three complementary areas of expertise:

  • Commercial: Energy price negotiations, energy revenue calculations, asset value and energy system optimisations, and asset purchase
  • Technical: Renewable energy asset and private wire designs
  • Social: Community insights, social value strategy, engagement and co-creation, and social impact evaluation

By integrating these perspectives, we help clients make informed investment decisions, develop effective strategies and identify solutions that consider the wider commercial, technical and social context of their projects.

Our work focuses on energy-intensive developments and major infrastructure projects, including data centres, large-scale renewable energy developments and strategic infrastructure planning. We also draw on the wider expertise of Hoare Lea and Tetra Tech, connecting clients with planning, environmental, engineering, design and project delivery capabilities as their projects progress.

About the role

As a Project Leader, you will take ownership of the scoping, planning and delivery of large, complex multidisciplinary advisory appointments, ensuring projects are delivered successfully. You will act as the primary point of contact for clients, bringing together specialist expertise from across A&A, Hoare Lea and Tetra Tech to deliver integrated advice that responds to their commercial, technical and social requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading projects from initial scoping and mobilisation through to delivery and closure
  • Taking responsibility for project planning, resourcing, programme, risk and commercial performance
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary teams, including internal specialists, intercompany resources and external consultants
  • Managing project budgets, forecasting, profitability and change control
  • Building strong client relationships, maintaining clear communication and ensuring high-quality project outcomes
  • Identifying, negotiating and securing new appointments, contributing directly to A&A's work-winning ambitions
  • Supporting and developing project team members, encouraging collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience leading complex, multidisciplinary consultancy or advisory projects, ideally within energy, infrastructure or major development programmes
  • Strong project and commercial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, resource planning and risk management
  • Experience managing senior client relationships and acting as the principal point of contact throughout project delivery
  • A track record of identifying, developing, negotiating and securing new work
  • The ability to coordinate and lead multidisciplinary teams, bringing together different areas of expertise to achieve successful outcomes
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage and influence at senior levels
  • Sound commercial judgement, a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to navigate complex and evolving project requirements
  • A collaborative and approachable leadership style, with the ability to motivate, support and develop colleagues
  • An interest in the commercial, technical and social challenges associated with major infrastructure and energy-intensive development

You will be comfortable operating in a dynamic consultancy environment, balancing the demands of project delivery with the development of client relationships and new business opportunities.
