Job Description

We provide a wide range of engineering and consultancy services, including acoustics, air quality, building services (MEP), fire, lighting, security, and sustainability.
The Associate Director will lead strategic electrical engineering projects across Scotland and the wider UK. The role is based in the Glasgow office and involves delivering high‑quality, sustainable solutions across a portfolio of substantial projects in sectors such as healthcare, data centres, infrastructure, and manufacturing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining client and consultant relationships; securing new business and negotiating scope and fees.
- Leading interview, bid preparation, and consultant appointment negotiations.
- Defining client briefs and ensuring delivery of technically accurate, high‑quality solutions.
- Taking ownership of profitable, large or technically complex schemes.
- Representing Hoare Lea at multi‑disciplinary project and principal meetings.
- Developing, leading, and mentoring a high‑performing team; managing workload, performance objectives and succession planning.
- Chairing team management meetings and monitoring team expenditure.
- Managing and mitigating project and business risks; ensuring compliance with procurement and contractual requirements.
- Promoting Hoare Lea services and sector development; sharing technical knowledge firm‑wide and acting as a technical point of contact.
- Contributing to central management, business improvement projects and open communication across the business.
Qualifications
- Chartered engineer (or equivalent professional recognition).
- Strong technical expertise in electrical design and current regulations, with extensive relevant industry experience delivering complex projects to tight timescales.
- Good understanding of other building services disciplines and integrated project teams.
- Proven commercial and client‑development skills; builds lasting professional relationships.
- Demonstrable leadership: motivates teams, manages performance and drives succession planning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Committed to continuous professional development and wider industry engagement.
