About the Role
We are looking for an Electrical Design Team Lead to join our growing Engineering team and become the driving force behind our high-voltage projects.
You’ll be part of the design team for a range of multi-disciplinary Transmission & Distribution projects, both domestically and internationally.
The Electrical Design Team Lead is responsible for leading and managing the allocated design team and will report directly to the Engineering Manager / Engineering Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the electrical requirements of assigned projects, ensuring appropriate resources are allocated and projects run efficiently.
- Assign and coordinate work across Electrical Engineers, ensuring deliverables remain on track and aligned with project milestones.
- Work closely with civil designers to ensure civil aspects meet electrical equipment requirements.
- Act as the single point of contact (SPOC) with utility providers and the client’s Owner’s Engineer.
- Manage electrical and civil design logs from utility providers and the client’s Owner’s Engineer.
- Manage design pack submissions to utility providers and the client’s Owner’s Engineer.
- Prepare procurement specifications for major primary plant, including HV power transformers, HV circuit breakers, HV switchgear and NERs.
- Review supplier documentation and schematics to ensure equipment complies with technical and functional specifications.
- Take responsibility for the approval of physical HV layouts, electrical systems, secondary control and protection systems, and single-line diagrams.
- Review and approve HV system studies, including protection coordination, voltage regulation, load flow and fault-level reports.
- Attend utility provider and client Owner’s Engineer meetings as required.
- Lead and coordinate the design team to ensure projects are delivered to the required technical, quality and programme standards.
Key Requirements
- Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a similar role within an HV contracting or utility environment.
- Proficient in electrical design software, including ETAP, EPLAN and AutoCAD .
- Proven experience leading and managing teams, with strong people-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines.
- A team-oriented professional who demonstrates initiative and takes ownership of delivering projects successfully.
- Strong technical knowledge of HV electrical systems and design.
- Proven ability to lead, manage and coordinate engineering teams.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively across electrical, civil and wider project disciplines.
- High level of initiative, accountability and problem-solving ability.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical quality.
