Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to be responsible and accountable for the Outpatient Department with support from the Head of Outpatients. They will ensure delivery of high quality and efficient outpatient services, delivering key quality performance and financial plans and service enhancements.

The post holder will support the Head of OPD to provide safe, effective and efficient management of the department with allocated resources, acting as a clinical role model and leader for all members of staff and working within a budget.

They will assist in the operational delivery of outpatients services against HMTs key performance indicators, ensuring the efficient running of the department; this will include clinical work in the department.

They will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the care needs of the out patients. They will take charge of the department, supervise and teach junior members of staff and act up in the absence of the Head of OPD.

The post holder will be required to provide high standards of direct patient care to a variety of different surgical patients within the department. Enhancing patient care, while developing specific clinical competencies and enhancing own knowledge through a lifelong learning approach

he post holder will be required to provide high standards of direct patient care to a variety of differentsurgical patients within the Out Patient/ Pre-Assessment Unit. Enhancing patient care, while developingspecific clinical competencies and enhancing own knowledge through a lifelong learning approach.

The post holder will work under the guidance of the OPD/Pre-assessment manager in monitoring andmaintaining excellent standards of nursing care as part of the OPD/Pre-assessment team.The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care with the guidance and support of moresenior staff. To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover according to experience forany area specified.

The post holder will be accountable for their nursing practice, adhere to the policies and protocols of HMTand the NMC. He/she will have a responsibility for their own personal and professional development and willassist in the continuing professional development and overall performance of learners e.g. student nursesand junior staff in the clinical area.

  • Registered Adult Nurse

  • Completion of Relevant training/ development programmes

Knowledge & Skills

  • Nurse and care for a variety specialties and complexities of

  • Contribute to the development of programs of competency
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize patient care
  • Ability to work under pressure and provide high care standards
  • To act as a patient advocate
  • Act as a team member within the ward/ department
  • Assisting with other members of the team in maintaining a safe
  • The safe administration of medications
  • Completing and updating accurate patient documentation.
  • To use the correct procedure when handing a patient into the
  • care of another nurse, giving the correct information and

Experience

  • Experience In management, and wound management, Venepuncture skills
  • NHS or Independent sector experience
