  • We're looking for a
  • Risk Identification Officer to join our Domestic Abuse Service in St Helens on an

8-month fixed term contract until the end of March 2027.

This is an important role within our service, helping to ensure that survivors of domestic abuse receive the right support as quickly and safely as possible.

You'll be responsible for triaging referrals from partner agencies, identifying risk and safeguarding concerns, and supporting survivors to access appropriate services.

Working closely with colleagues and external partners, you'll play an important part in delivering a responsive, survivor-centred service that prioritises safety, dignity and positive outcomes.

Working pattern

This role is initially office-based Monday to Friday whilst you complete your probation, training and induction period.

Following successful completion and subject to business needs, a hybrid working arrangement may be available.

Applicants must therefore be available to attend our St Helens office Monday to Friday during the early stages of employment.

  • What you'll be doing
  • Receiving, screening, triaging and processing domestic abuse referrals from partner agencies, ensuring they are managed in line with agreed standards and timescales.
  • Assessing referrals for risk, urgency and safeguarding concerns, taking appropriate action and prioritising support where needed.
  • Assessing safety considerations before contact and using the Safe2Speak framework to establish safe communication routes when required.
  • Making initial contact with survivors to offer support, information and engagement with the service.
  • Identifying safeguarding concerns relating to children and adults at risk and following safeguarding procedures, including making referrals where appropriate.
  • Quality checking referral information to ensure it is accurate, complete and supports effective decision‑making.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely records on case management systems, ensuring compliance with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
  • Supporting professionals with the completion of MERIT risk assessments following disclosures of domestic abuse.
  • Acting as a point of contact for partner agencies, providing advice and guidance on referral pathways, thresholds and domestic abuse processes.
  • Assisting with service administration, data monitoring and reporting to support performance, quality assurance and commissioning requirements.
  • Managing a high‑volume workload, prioritising effectively and working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to deliver a responsive and survivor‑centred service.

What we're looking for

  • Experience working within a domestic abuse, safeguarding or similar environment supporting vulnerable individuals
  • Experience assessing risk, making informed decisions and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
  • A good understanding of domestic abuse, including coercive and controlling behaviour, risk indicators and the impact on survivors and their families.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities and procedures relating to both adults and children.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with survivors and build positive relationships with partner agencies and professionals.
  • The ability to manage a busy workload, prioritise effectively and maintain accurate records and case notes.
  • A resilient, organised and professional approach, with a commitment to delivering high‑quality, survivor‑centred support
  • Interview Process

Candidates will be invited to attend an interview which will include a 15–20 minute unseen written activity and a competency‑based discussion.

The activity will assess your ability to identify and prioritise risk, make decisions, and respond to safeguarding scenarios.

The interview will focus on your relevant experience, communication skills, and ability to manage referrals and enquiries effectively.
