HMRC is made up of Customer Groups which are working independently towards a common goal. Our role sits within HMRC's Chief Digital Product Office which is within the Chief Digital & Information Office (CDIO) Group that delivers in-house solutions for a broad range of technical and operational issues as well as running the key digital services (like the Personal Tax Account and HMRC App) through which our customers interact with us.

As a Senior Performance Analyst, you will play a key role in delivering performance analysis across a portfolio of digital services, aligned to a distinct tax regime or digital platform. You'll work closely with Product Managers in agile product teams to ensure the services we deliver are data-informed and continuously improving.

You will:

  • Undertake performance analysis and provide insight, with skills specified for the 'Senior Performance Analyst' role in the following link - Performance analyst - Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework.
  • Deliver performance analysis for a distinct tax regime or digital platform within Customer Engagement, utilising data to understand user behaviour and service performance.
  • Work with stakeholders to define and monitor KPIs through the implementation of performance frameworks, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and user needs.
  • Use tools such as SQL and Power BI to extract, transform and visualise data.
  • Create clear, actionable insights and communicate them effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Mentor and support Performance Analysts, helping them grow their technical and analytical skillset.
  • Collaborate across disciplines, including user research, product management, and service design, to build a holistic view of service performance.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience within an analytical role.
  • Experience using data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Data Studio or Tableau.
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets to extract, interrogate and interpret data into meaningful insights.
  • Experience partnering with stakeholders to define KPIs and performance measures.
  • A user-centred approach and commitment to improving decision-making through data and insight.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain National Security vetting level 'Security Check'.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience mentoring, coaching or line-managing junior colleagues.
  • Working knowledge of agile principles and ways of working.
