Finance, Planning & Performance (FP&P) sits at the heart of HMRC's Customer Services Group (CSG), supporting evidence-based decisions that shape how services are delivered to millions of customers.

As a Performance Insight and Forecasting Analyst, you will use data, analysis and insight to help CSG understand performance, forecast demand, and plan effectively for the future. You will work closely with operational, enabling and senior stakeholders to turn complex performance data into clear insight that informs decisions, improves services and supports value for money.

This role is well suited to an analyst who enjoys working at pace, applying analytical thinking to real-world operational challenges, and communicating insight in a clear and impactful way.

Job description

As a Performance Insight and Forecasting Analyst, you will be responsible for producing high quality analysis that supports operational planning, forecasting and performance decision-making across Customer Services. You will work with a range of performance and operational data, ensuring it is accurate, well-understood and fit for purpose. You will use analysis to identify trends, risks and opportunities, and clearly communicate what the data means for decision makers. You will operate within established governance frameworks, providing assurance over data quality and analysis while remaining flexible and responsive to changing priorities.

Person specification

This role requires a confident and analytical professional who can apply data, insight and structured thinking to support performance, forecasting and decision-making across Customer Services. You will be expected to work at pace with data and stakeholders, maintaining high analytical standards while operating within governance frameworks.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience analysing performance, operational or forecasting data, using accurate, timely information to support decision-making.
  • Ability to validate and assure data and analysis, ensuring outputs are robust, credible and fit for purpose.
  • Experience translating complex data into clear insight, using written, visual or verbal communication appropriate to the audience.
  • Strong analytical prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple demands and respond effectively to changing priorities.
  • Experience working with stakeholders at varying levels, providing effective challenge and supporting evidence-based decisions.
  • Strong numeracy and data-handling skills, with experience using tools such as Excel (and/or similar analytical tools) to analyse and present data.

Alongside your salary of 37,682, HM Revenue and Customs contributes 10,916 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. HMRC operates both Flexible and Hybrid Working policies, allowing you to balance your work and personal commitments. We offer a generous leave allowance, starting at 25 days and increasing by a day for every year of qualifying service up to a maximum of 30 days.
