The purpose of the Intelligence Deputy Directorate within RIS is to develop and enhance the intelligence picture of organised crime and serious fraud impacting HMRC. We then deliver quality intelligence products to drive decision making and compliance interventions to maximise our impact.

We do this by:

  • Collecting, collating, and exploiting intelligence to identify the greatest threats to HMRC and drive operational decision making.
  • Providing information, intelligence, and live operational support to HMRC teams, Law Enforcement, and international partners to increase their impact and effectiveness.
  • Developing and delivering high impacting intervention opportunities to stop and disrupt serious non‑compliance.
  • Collaborating with national and international partners to increase our collective impact and capability.

You will join HMRC’s Intelligence Services as it establishes a two-hub structure across our Cardiff, Gartcosh and Ipswich locations. You will be allocated to Hub roles depending on business requirement.

Cardiff, Gartcosh and Ipswich RIS IS Hub functions include:

  • Intelligence Acquisition, Co‑ordination and Exchange
  • Specialist Intelligence Function

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Receiving, assessing, and accurately recording intelligence from the public regarding HMRC fraud via telephone and other communication channels.
  • Using internal and external databases to interpret and analyse information, producing clear and actionable intelligence reports/packages for dissemination.
  • Responsibility for handling confidential data with discretion, ensuring the protection of sensitive information in full compliance with data protection legislation, security protocols, and internal policies.
  • Delivering excellent customer service, maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Working collaboratively within a team environment, contributing to shared goals and supporting others as needed.
  • Operating effectively in a dynamic environment, managing conflicting priorities and adapting to changing demands.
  • Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement by sharing ideas and supporting process enhancements.
  • Undertaking telephony work as part of daily responsibilities, including handling inbound and outbound calls in a professional manner.
