HMRC’s Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) is responsible for the department’s civil and criminal investigations. Investigation Services brings mainstream and highly specialist capabilities together to support investigations into serious tax fraud and money laundering. This role provides vital services to the full range of FIS investigations, helping HMRC tackle the many and pressing challenges that modern‑day tax fraud presents.
Deliver core services as part of every criminal and civil investigation carried out by HMRC:
- Interrogate departmental systems, prepare standard intelligence packs and standardise and interpret data.
- Procure essential items within associated budgets.
- Develop professional stakeholder relationships with investigators to support planning and delivery.
- Assist with property and vehicles, including driving an official vehicle when required.
- Attend the Investigation Services Officer Training course, which may require travel with overnight stay.
- Complete Public and Personal Safety Training.
- Travel as required, with occasional overnight stays.
- Provide an office‑based role requiring a minimum of 60% office attendance.
Vehicle fleet maintenance – ensuring the fleet is operational by undertaking vehicle checks, driving the vehicles to and from garages for repair/maintenance. Perform tasks suitable to the Assistant Officer grade in line with the guidance provided. Contribute to a supportive culture, realising the operational potential of the team to deliver against Investigation Services SLAs and KPIs. Identify development needs through conversations and QA processes and communicate them to your line manager. Develop a professional relationship with local investigators, case teams and other teams within IS and FIS. Work collaboratively with colleagues across FIS to build skills, share best practice and deliver business objectives. Maintain and assure operational assets.

Additional Security Information
- SC Clearance is required. If you do not currently hold SC clearance, you must be eligible to attain it and HMRC will support you in gaining clearance.
