Discover a career in your hands at HMRC. Are you a graduate interested in starting or furthering your career in finance? Can you use your analytical and problem-solving skills to make accurate and informed decisions? Like the idea of work placements across a range of Finance teams, which will give you experience of how finance works within HMRC?
You will study towards either a CIMA or CIPFA - Finance Qualification. This 4-year programme offers 4 placements in total: 3 x 1-year placements in core finance roles and then you may spend your final year in a role less focused on core finance. Following 2 years on the scheme (at Higher Officer) and subject to meeting the scheme milestones (satisfactory progress with study programme, Line manager endorsement), you can apply for advancement to Senior Officer through an assessment process.
Your work placement responsibilities may include:
- Financial Accounting and Reporting - delivering core financial controls, providing technical accounting advice and producing the annual report and accounts.
- Financial Operations - ensuring that financial processes run efficiently such as purchasing, income, cash management, expense, payroll and master data setup.
- Finance Business Partnering - long-term planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and communication of financial data and reports, supporting investment appraisals and commercial activities.
- Risk Management - working closely with other corporate functions and stakeholders to monitor and mitigate risk.
- Strategic Finance - provide strategic advice and analysis on financial impact, performance and risk to senior stakeholders and contribute to the strategic direction of the Department.
- Systems and Data - manage the financial systems controls and user support processes.
- Management Reporting - producing in-year financial management, adding value to numbers by providing insight and analysis.
About you: You have exceptional communication skills and can use clear and concise language to convey your opinions and ideas. You have the ability to build and maintain positive relationships through good interpersonal skills and communication skills. You enjoy finding creative solutions to problems and using these solutions to inform decisions. You demonstrate a clear enthusiasm for finance and a commitment to ongoing learning. You have time management and prioritisation skills and can adapt to changing priorities whilst adhering to strict deadlines. You have the ability to work collaboratively with others to successfully achieve tasks and deliver results.
Essential Criteria:
- External Candidates - A Degree minimum 2.1 in any subject
- Existing Civil Servants - A minimum of Level 4 Qualification or equivalent.
All applicants must complete and pass an eligibility assessment carried out by our Training Provider at the conditional offer stage. The assessment will determine the appropriate study route which may include completing some of the qualification as a Level 4 apprenticeship. Your appointment will not be confirmed until this has been completed.
HMRC operates both Flexible and Hybrid Working policies, allowing you to balance your work and personal commitments. We welcome applications from those who need to work a more flexible arrangement and will agree to requests where possible, considering our operational and customer service needs.
We offer a generous leave allowance, starting at 25 days and increasing by a day for every year of qualifying service up to a maximum of 30 days.
