This is an exciting opportunity to join HMRC's Protective Security - Insider Risk Mitigation Team (IRMT) in driving continuous improvement across the wider HMRC, and to ensure HMRC strives in their efforts to change the culture of personnel security across the business. As driving continuous improvements to personnel security reduces the risk of 'insiders' exploiting their legitimate access to HMRC's assets for unauthorised purposes, you will play an integral role in bolstering HMRC's personnel security posture.

As an Insider Risk Mitigation Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting HMRC's approach to identifying, assessing and reducing insider risk across the organisation. Working as part of the Insider Risk Mitigation Team (IRMT), you will engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including business areas, risk leads, and security partners, to help embed robust personnel security controls and improve organisational resilience.

You will contribute to the development and delivery of insider risk mitigation activities, including risk assessments, assurance processes and continuous improvement initiatives aligned to HMRC and wider government security standards. Through your work, you will help drive a positive security culture and reduce the risk of individuals exploiting legitimate access to HMRC systems, data and assets.

We are looking for someone with experience in good communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work reactively, at short notice, to rapidly changing priorities and work streams. Successful candidates will support the aims and objectives of the IRMT by:

  • Being responsible for gathering of threat data through a variety of channels and conduct trend analysis to identify insider risk themes and patterns.
  • Being responsible for the management and annual review of IRMT's tools and processes and utilising tool/process outputs to generate and issue stakeholder reports.
  • Supporting with the governance of a security community 'Insider Risk' SharePoint site and related communications.
  • Being responsible for secretariat duties for IRMT working groups pertaining to all IRMT's working groups, board meetings, and workshops.
  • Monitoring IRMT's alignment to the overarching Security strategy.
  • Leading on continual improvement work to reduce/mitigate insider risk.
  • Conducting any other duties within the IRMT as necessary.

Essential Criteria:

  • A proven track record for delivering positive outcomes and improvement work.
  • Experience of organising meetings and/or workshops and managing relationships of stakeholders often at senior levels with different needs and expectations.
  • Ability to identify and translate high-level requirements into realistic action plans.
  • Good proficiency with the Office 365 and/or Power Platform suites.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and good organisational, planning and time management skills.
