We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join the Substance Misuse team at HMP Winchester, a category B prison located in Winchester. This role involves empowering individuals to make positive changes in their behaviour, promoting health and well‑being through recovery from drugs and alcohol. It is a crucial part of the healthcare team, delivering outstanding patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence‑based care to a caseload of psycho‑social patients, listening to their feedback and tailoring care to what matters most to them.
  • Deliver psycho‑social interventions and offer information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol use, smoking cessation, blood‑borne viruses, and safe sex practices.
  • Provide non‑judgemental care on a one‑to‑one basis and through group work, supporting nursing and pharmacy teams in primary care within healthcare centres, wings and house blocks.
  • Work within the HiJ competency framework, following policies, procedures, and safeguarding requirements.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Relevant degree or qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in delivering structured psycho‑social interventions.
  • Experience working within a multi‑disciplinary substance misuse framework that includes housing, social care, healthcare, and mental health pathways.
  • A non‑judgemental and compassionate approach.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good IT skills and literacy.

Working Conditions

  • Hours: Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:00.
  • Full‑time position.
  • Annual salary up to £33,510 per annum.
