Location: Field Based (East Midlands/East Anglia) including Suffolk Downs, Yarmouth, Henlow and Towcester stadia and kennels in counties such as Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Suffolk and Northamptonshire.

Salary: £45,000 (Rising to £50,000 after 1 years service) + Car allowance or Company car.

Hours: 35 hours per week with a requirement to work some evenings, weekends and bank holidays. The postholder will organise their own diary, allowing for time off during the following week if working on a Saturday or Sunday. There is a high volume of driving involved.

Job Summary: As a Regulatory Veterinary Surgeon, you will play a crucial role in upholding the Rules of Racing, ensuring the welfare of greyhounds across various tracks and residential kennels. Reporting to the Executive Veterinary Surgeon, you will be a point of reference and support for Stipendiary Stewards, Track Veterinary Surgeons, and Trainers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uphold Rules of Racing related to greyhound welfare.
  • Support track veterinary surgeons in their regulatory functions.
  • Conduct random inspections of vehicles for adherence to Hot and Cold Weather Policies.
  • Perform annual veterinary kennel inspections at trainers' residential kennels.
  • Review medicines used at licensed trainers kennels, promoting antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Deliver regular welfare updates and advice to trainers.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of veterinary protocols.
  • Promote annual CPD training for track vets.
  • Undertake continuous professional and personal development in line with RCVS guidelines.

General Compliance:

  • Adherence to all Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible handling of data records, respecting data security and confidentiality.

Person Specification:

  • Member or Fellow of RCVS.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a veterinary practice.
  • Good computing skills and willingness to learn about new technologies.
  • Ability to work well within a team and independently.
  • Strong commitment to animal welfare.
  • Professional approach to veterinary care.
  • Flexibility to work outside usual hours when required.
  • Understanding and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • UK Drivers licence.
  • Postgraduate qualification in animal welfare or relevant discipline.
  • Experience in animal sports or animal welfare charity.
  • Experience in kennel management and conducting inspections.
