HMN Capital is retained on a confidential search for a Financial Controller. This is the lead finance role and the first senior permanent finance hire in a fast-growing, investor-backed B2B software group in London, built with a clear path to Finance Director. This is the person who builds the finance engine rather than inherits it. Reporting to the CEO and working alongside an experienced fractional CFO whose intent is to mentor a successor, you will own the close, build a group consolidation across two Xero entities from scratch, and produce the numbers the Board relies on.

Why this one is worth a conversation:

  • Lead the function. The senior permanent finance hire, owning the finance engine day to day, not one layer in a large team.
  • A real path to FD. The role is designed to grow into Finance Director as the function matures, with mentoring from the CFO.
  • Exit exposure. The business is deliberately raising its reporting to investor-grade as it prepares for future corporate activity, so you sit in the finance seat through the value-creation and exit journey rather than reading about it afterwards.

Our client is a subscription-software business serving a large consumer-facing market. It became independent from a larger corporate group in 2023 and has since made a complementary acquisition. Around 90% of revenue is recurring, gross retention sits in the mid-90s, and net revenue retention runs above 110%.

What you will own:

  • Month-end close and management accounts for both entities, then a group consolidation on one mapped chart of accounts (intercompany and eliminations).
  • The monthly Board pack: three-statement accounts, actuals vs budget and forecast, and SaaS KPIs (ARR bridge, retention, revenue by product and channel, EBITDA, cash runway).
  • Revenue recognition and deferred revenue, with a standing reconciliation from contracted ARR through billed MRR to statutory revenue.
  • The driver-based operating model, rolling reforecast, scenario work and close cash management.
  • Balance sheet integrity, documented policies (including R&D), and the compliance calendar with external advisers.
  • Commercial partnering with the CEO and support to the CFO on investor reporting and corporate projects.

About you:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), likely 2+ years PQE as a Financial Controller, Group Accountant or senior management accountant.
  • SaaS or subscription-revenue experience (rev rec, deferred revenue, ARR/MRR), or strong recurring-revenue and process experience. Sector knowledge not required.
  • Multi-entity consolidation and intercompany; ideally integration of an acquired business.
  • Strong Excel and hands-on systems experience (Xero or similar, CRM and billing data). A practical interest in automation and AI in finance is an advantage.
  • High attention to detail, comfortable building process where none exists and presenting to founders and a Board.

£100,000–£120,000 depending on experience, plus benefits. This is a confidential search handled exclusively by HMN Capital; the client is named to suitable candidates under confidentiality.
