If you have the leadership skills, expertise and vision we need, you’ll discover a role that creates an impact which resonates across our organisation.
Your role
You’ll lead and shape the electronics profession, setting its vision and strategy while driving transformational change across the organisation. Acting as the senior technical authority, you’ll tackle complex engineering challenges, oversee capability development, and ensure delivery of high‑quality solutions that align with business goals. You’ll influence enterprise‑level standards, tools and frameworks, break down silos, and embed more integrated ways of working across hardware disciplines. Beyond internal leadership, you’ll bring commercial insight and external perspective, forging strong links with industry, academia and suppliers to adopt best practices and emerging technologies. This is a highly autonomous role with scope to shape long‑term technical direction and position HMGCC for a future‑ready, scalable approach.
What you need
You’ll bring substantial expertise in electronic engineering, demonstrated through a Chartership or equivalent professional experience, and a strong foundation in electronics and hardware design. You’re able to combine deep engineering authority with the vision and leadership to shape strategy, inspire teams and drive transformational change. Alongside a proven track record of delivering complex projects, you’ll have significant experience in mentoring, capability building and influencing at an organisational level. Breadth across disciplines such as analogue, digital, RF, FPGA and embedded systems is highly valuable, as are exceptional communication skills to engage stakeholders and embed best practices from industry.
What we offer
You’ll join a collaborative and inclusive environment where your leadership and expertise make a real impact on national security. As part of our senior engineering team, you’ll have the autonomy to shape strategy and influence how we work, while staying at the forefront of technology through targeted development and professional networks. We offer flexible and compressed working patterns, generous annual leave (including additional leave days), and a competitive government pension scheme. You’ll also benefit from paid overtime or time off in lieu, an interest‑free relocation loan if needed, and excellent on‑site facilities including a free 24‑hour gym, secure parking, an on‑site café and restaurant, and a nursery (subject to availability). Alongside this, we provide affinity groups for disability, LGBTQIA+ and ethnic minority communities, sports and social societies, and three paid charity days each year, giving you everything you need to thrive and lead with confidence.
