The Library Assistant will support the daily operations, development and promotion of the library within the school to ensure the provision of an effective resource and information service to all pupils and staff across the Junior and Senior libraries.
Location: Hereford
Salary: £18,527 - £21,914 depending upon experience and qualification (equates to a salary between £6,495 - £7,682 for the work pattern detailed below). Point 9-15 on the support salary scale.
Hours/weeks: 2 days per week (16.5 hours), term time only (36 weeks per year)
Hereford Cathedral School has a well‑established and thriving extra‑curricular programme, and the successful applicant will be expected to play an active part in this.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with research and project‑based work in the libraries
- Supervise pupils and run the library during lunch break and after school
- Undertake training and supervision of pupil assistants and monitors in appropriate library tasks
- Assist in planning and overseeing the management and organisation of the libraries
- Process, organise, promote and maintain all library stock, including cataloguing
- Ensure equal access and equality of opportunity for all pupils and staff
- Optimise the use of IT, including running the Library Management System, entering data and generating reports
- Lead user education sessions on how to use the libraries and all equipment
- Participate with teaching staff in curriculum planning, information skills, language policy and programmes
- Ensure a high standard of display and promotional material to enhance the appearance of the libraries
- Assist at library events after school if required
- Cover for the librarian where necessary
- Provide guidance and assistance to pupils and teachers in using library resources and conducting research
- Assist with stock selection, deletion, processing of new books and financial data
- Oversee overdue reminders and procedures
- Carry out any other duties reasonably regarded as within the nature of the Library Assistant role
