The Edinburgh Academy seeks to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic Snare Drum teacher from August 2025 to join our Pipe Band team on a permanent, term-time salaried basis.
We welcome applications from individuals with relevant teaching qualifications and/or experience. The successful candidate should be able to teach Snare Drum from primary 4 to S6 and help develop the Pipe Band programme. Teaching will occur in both the Junior and Senior schools.
The teacher may also be engaged at other times during the year for rehearsals, competitions, or performances, including CCF events, RSPBA, and Non-RSPBA competitions, as well as other events. They are expected to actively participate in organizing events, trips, and competitions within the pipe band team.
The following summarizes the responsibilities of the Drumming Instructor:
- Provide weekly individual Snare Drum lessons as directed by the Head of the Pipe Band
- Arrange and notate drum scores for traditional and contemporary performances
- Give regular feedback on student progress and complete annual reports for parents
- Support SQA and other exam candidates as needed
- Maintain school instruments and equipment in good condition
- Contribute to performances, ensuring pupils are well-prepared and supported during events
- Organize and prepare for school and external performances
- Maintain positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues
- Follow the guidelines of the Music Department
At least 60% of your time will be dedicated to teaching pupils, with the remainder supporting the Pipe Major in examinations, events, and competitions.
Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday events may be required, with prior agreement. All leave should be taken during school holidays.
