As an Accounting Manager, you are responsible for ensuring that the financial operations of the organization are well managed, compliant, and transparent, contributing to overall business success according to H&M group rules and local regulations. You lead the UK & IE Accounts team, overseeing group reporting, statutory reporting, tax compliance, audit coordination, and financial controls across all entities in the UK and Ireland. You ensure accurate and timely financial reporting according to local GAAP and Group Accounting Standards (IFRS), strong internal controls, and full compliance with local GAAP in tax and statutory reporting and other obligations.

Your core responsibilities are:

  • Accounting & Reporting
    • Lead the UK & IE Accounts team, providing direction and guidance, managing team development and performance.
    • Ensure strong internal controls and consistent application of accounting and financial processes.
    • Manage preparation of group reports, statutory accounts and tax reports for all UK & IE entities.
    • Oversee month-end close for group accounts, including P&L review, balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow, and commentary for Controllers.
    • Provide technical guidance and act as the escalation point for complex accounting, tax, and compliance matters in the UK and Ireland.
    • Coordinate with Global Accounting Team and our Shared Service Centres on accounts postings, reconciliations, and monthly, quarterly and annual closings to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Audit & Tax
    • Lead the annual audit process, managing auditors, timelines, and deliverables.
    • Maintain and develop internal controls for UK and Ireland.
    • Prepare tax reports, liaise with tax advisors, and review CIT returns.
    • Oversee PSA reporting, PAYE-related tax matters, duties and other tax issues.
    • Manage HMRC enquiries and audits and ensure alignment with Group Tax policies.

In this role, you will collaborate with multiple teams to ensure organized and successful operations of the group’s business in the UK and IE. You will work closely with your colleagues in the UK, with the Group Finance & Accounting Teams and with the Shared Service Centres.

We are looking for people with:

  • 8-10 years’ experience in accounting, preferable in retail business or similar (FMCG).
  • Master’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Experience with accounting software packages, preferable in Power BI and SAP S4/Hana.
  • Proven knowledge of local and IFRS accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations.
  • Excel proficiency for financial analysis and reporting, deep understanding of functions, formulas, data manipulation, and creating dynamic financial models.
  • Solid understanding of tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and optimize tax strategies.
  • Familiar with tax planning, tax returns, deductions, credits, and other tax-related matters to effectively manage the organization's tax obligations.
  • Possesses knowledge of audit processes and internal controls to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Understanding of internal control frameworks, performing internal audits, and implementing procedures to safeguard assets and prevent fraudulent activities.
  • Excellent communication skills in English written and spoken.
