The Macroeconomic Assessment and Projects (MAP) team is at the core of the Treasury’s function as an economics Ministry, providing economic analysis, briefing and policy advice on the issues facing the UK economy. As a team, we play a central role in analysing developments in the economy and risks to the outlook. We aspire to excellence in producing high quality and influential analysis and working collaboratively with colleagues across the department.

The Analytical Projects Unit’s high-priority projects often sit alongside the important analytical questions other branches in the team are working through to support policy development across the department. It is a friendly and inclusive team, aiming to provide all members with opportunities to further develop their analysis and modelling expertise, their project management skills and clearer routes to deliver impactful and timely analysis to inform and influence policymaking across the department.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Integrating into a new team and becoming abreast of the policy area quickly, including understanding key stakeholders and proactively developing an understanding of the area.
  • Scoping out and planning analytical projects, identifying the best analytical techniques, key outputs, and prioritising work streams with the greatest impact.
  • Delivering high quality analytical projects at pace, working collaboratively with policy teams across HM Treasury and other Government departments.
  • Communicating the conclusions of the project to Senior Officials, Ministers, and other partners, influencing the strategic direction of HMT policy.
  • Representing the team across the organisation, helping to enhance the APU’s reputation as a key part of the HMT architecture which influences HMT policy.
