About the Team
The Pensions and Savings Team is one of five teams in Personal Tax, Welfare and Pensions with HM Treasury. We are responsible for policy that supports people to build savings and pensions throughout their working life and for the state pension and connected benefits paid to people once they retire. The team is responsible for significant annual tax reliefs (totalling over £70bn) and AME expenditure (exceeding £100bn). To deliver our policies, we work closely with other teams within HM Treasury and with other departments, particularly DWP and HMRC. These are exciting policies that are meaningful across the population. The size and influence of these policies means that they are always of interest to ministers.
We are a small and friendly team. We play an active role in making sure that PTWP has an inclusive, positive working environment. We are committed to ensuring a good work-life balance and currently have people with a variety of working patterns and part-time roles.
About the Job
In this role, you will:
- Lead on policy development within the Pensions and Savings team.
- Brief senior civil servants, Special Advisers, and ministers on developments within your policy area, proposing solutions that take account of ministerial priorities and economic conditions.
- Build a network of colleagues across HMT, DWP, and HMRC, working closely with them on all aspects of policy.
- Interpret fiscal data, political developments, and stakeholder input to identify a course of action that will deliver on ministerial priorities.
- Provide line management, leadership, and support to at least one Senior Executive Officer in your branch.
About You
You will be able to develop policy and make evidenced based decisions in a complex, fast paced, and technically demanding area. You will have excellent stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to build strong internal and external relationships and use those relationships to influence policy direction. And you will be able to communicate with others with clarity and conviction; explain complex issues in a way that is easy for others to understand; and tailor your communication style to different audiences.
Some of the Benefits our people love!
- 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years), plus 8 public holidays and the King’s birthday (unless you have a legacy arrangement as an existing Civil Servant). Additionally, we operate flexitime systems, allowing employees to take up to an additional 2 days off each month.
- Flexible working patterns (part-time, job-share, condensed hours).
- Generous parental and adoption leave packages.
- Access to a generous Defined Benefit pension scheme with employer contributions of 28%.
- Access to a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme and season ticket advances.
- A range of active staff networks, based around interests (e.g. analysts, music society, sports and social club) and diversity.
