Join HM Revenue & Customs as a Level 4 software developer apprentice. You'll work on modern digital platforms, contribute to key government services, and receive structured training and mentorship from senior developers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software applications under supervision through paired programming.
  • Participate in code reviews and testing processes.
  • Contribute to project planning and delivery activities.
  • Support system documentation and user guidance materials.
  • Help identify and resolve live service issues following agreed procedures.
  • Learn how to apply modern development standards in everything you do.

Qualifications

  • Completed a Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship with QA or have an equivalent qualification with another training provider.
  • OR an A-level in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subject and a successful completion of our aptitude test.
  • OR a BTEC Diploma in IT and a successful completion of our aptitude test.
  • OR 2 years' experience in a relevant role and successful completion of our aptitude test.

Salary and Pension

Salary £31,096. HMRC contributes £9,008 to the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

Working Arrangements

Flexible and Hybrid working policies available. You can request flexible arrangements where possible, balancing your personal commitments with operational needs.

Eligibility

16 or over, right to live and work in the UK, National Insurance number, at least 30 hours per week, not enrolled in another apprenticeship or receiving DfE funding.
