With 50 million customers to serve, over 60 thousand colleagues to support and £600 billion to collect to fund UK Services (such as our NHS, Education System, and much more), our IT operation is far-reaching and has a direct impact on the tax collection and supporting those in need. Here at HMRC we’re looking to enhance our IT for outbound customer communications by centralising document composition and clearly delineating responsibilities between our communications and IT departments.

The post has been created to support with:

  • Centralising one-off mailings into a single in-house solution
  • Developing a Proof of Concept for business users to change the content of customer communications

As a Quadient Software Developer, you will:

  • Create and amend output, using Quadient (GMC) Inspire for composition and orchestration activities for both print and digital transmission
  • Deliver technological change against a background of organisational transformation, as well as an opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives by delivering great digital and paper products
  • Be a key member of the team, collaborating with all members throughout the full delivery lifecycle to ensure delivery of highest-quality personalised omni-channel products
  • Work with data in flat, structured and print-ready data formats, using Quadient Inspire to enhance print-ready data and use knowledge of print stream formats, including AFP, Adobe PDF, Postscript and PCL
  • Have knowledge of testing procedures and configuration issues
  • Be an experienced direct mail and/or transactional document composition programmer with professional experience of document composition in Quadient Inspire v16
  • Be proficient in Inspire Interactive, Inspire Automation, and Inspire Designer
  • Have skilled experience of working with coding languages, such as C++, C#, Java
  • Demonstrate understanding of developing electronic (HTML) communications
  • Have experience in leading investigative work into problems at a senior level, driving the collection of information and creation of recommendations for improvements
  • Have the ability to work at pace to effectively resolve issues
  • Hold certifications for Inspire Designer, Automation and Interactive
  • Have an understanding of Linux operating system
  • Possess good knowledge of Unix commands to administer the live database
  • Have knowledge and understanding of SQL, server and other database technologies
