HMRC is designing a future metadata platform to support AI-enabled decision-making, transformation reuse, and strategic agility. As we prepare to retender our commercial tooling contract, we are seeking a Technical Architect to lead the design and development of the platform’s technical blueprint. You will evaluate HMRC’s internal and external technical landscape, assess existing and emerging products, and define the technical requirements that will shape the next generation of metadata tooling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design and blueprint for HMRC’s future metadata platform.
  • Evaluate existing tooling (e.g., AXON, ABACUS, EDC) and assess external solutions for capability, cost, and risk.
  • Work closely with HMRC’s Platform Services function and Chief Technical Design Office to ensure technical alignment across HMRC’s architecture, data, and transformation programmes.
  • Work closely with the Data Architect to define integrated data and technical requirements for the commercial retender.
  • Support the platform’s scalability, interoperability, and readiness for AI and semantic technologies.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in technical architecture and solution design within complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of metadata tooling, integration, and platform scalability.
  • Experience evaluating commercial products and contributing to procurement exercises.
  • Ability to produce clear, actionable technical blueprints and align with strategic goals.
  • Familiarity with Informatica tooling (AXON, ABACUS, EDC).
  • Knowledge of semantic layer design, knowledge graphs, or AI-enablement.
