We are seeking a highly experienced and delivery-focused Migration Architect to help lead and support senior leadership in the successful planning, design and execution of the ETMP Regeneration Programme. This is a once-in-a-generation transformation initiative to migrate HMRC’s Enterprise Tax Management Platform (ETMP) from ECC6 to S/4HANA. The role is central to ensuring the successful delivery of this complex and high-impact programme, which underpins HMRC’s core tax accounting and payment capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Ensure Delivery of the Target Architecture: Drive the end-to-end delivery of the enterprise architecture for the ETMP Regeneration Programme, ensuring successful outcomes across planning, design and implementation phases.
- S/4HANA Migration Leadership: Provide architectural leadership and assurance across all stages of S/4HANA migration, drawing on direct experience of having completed one or more such migrations.
- Architecture Documentation: Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams.
- Senior Leadership Engagement: Prepare and deliver clear, concise briefings to senior leaders. Translate complex technical concepts into simple, actionable language to support informed decision-making.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work across a diverse ecosystem of internal HMRC teams, suppliers, systems integrators (SIs), and technology vendors to ensure architectural alignment and delivery cohesion.
- Multi-disciplinary Teamwork: Operate effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment, collaborating with delivery leads, techno-functional experts, analysts, architects, programme management leads and business stakeholders.
- Commercial and Supplier Oversight: Review supplier proposals, contribute to commercial discussions, and ensure architectural integrity across third-party engagements.
- S/4HANA Migration Expertise: Hands-on experience in leading and completing one or more S/4HANA migrations, including ECC6 transition planning and execution. Knowledge of SAP’s Activate methodology.
- Proven Delivery Experience: A strong track record of delivering enterprise architecture in large-scale, complex transformation programmes.
- Complex Programme Environment: Demonstrated ability to operate in large, multi-stakeholder environments with competing priorities and high delivery expectations.
- SAP Technology Knowledge and Experience: Deep expertise in ECC6, S/4HANA, BW/4HANA, SAP BTP (including major apps such as Work Zone, Build Apps, BPA etc), Fiori, Integration Suite, RISE and the latest SAP product and service offerings.
- Cloud and Hosting Models: Strong experience with RISE with SAP, SaaS, and PaaS hosting models, including architectural design, deployment, integration, networking and security.
- Supplier and Commercial Acumen: Experience reviewing supplier proposals, managing commercials, and working across multiple suppliers, systems integrators (SIs), vendors, and internal teams.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leaders.
- TRM & PSCD Knowledge and/or Experience: Awareness of SAP Industry Solutions Tax & Revenue Management (TRM) and Public Sector Collections and Disbursements (PSCD).
- Wider Architecture Knowledge: Enterprise Architecture knowledge and experience or other technologies and domains outside of SAP. Well-rounded knowledge of data, integration, networks, security, identity management, etc.
- Public Sector Experience: Experience of working in the Public Sector, especially taxation, and/or large, complex industries such as Finance, Utilities, etc.
