As a Data Engineering Architect in AI&D, you design and deliver robust, scalable, and secure data engineering architectures, frameworks, and pipelines on cloud projects. Your role involves leading architectural assessments, defining target state architectures, guiding implementation, providing technical leadership, mentoring teams, evaluating emerging technologies, and ensuring solution alignment with strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead architectural assessments of existing data platforms, define target state architectures and develop strategic roadmaps leveraging Cloud IaaS and PaaS components.
- Define and evolve the architectural blueprint for robust data engineering pipelines, guiding implementation to ensure scalability, performance and alignment.
- Work effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive culture where contributions are recognised.
- Define and guide the technical roadmap for data platforms, ensuring architectural alignment and robust delivery through advanced DevOps practices.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship and architectural guidance to diverse engineering teams (onshore and offshore).
- Evaluate and champion adoption of emerging open‑source and proprietary data technologies, assessing fit, value and impact.
- Drive architectural vision for market‑leading analytics and cognitive offerings and shape growth of Strategy, Governance & Architecture community.
- Provide oversight and governance for key client project workstreams, ensuring high‑quality, scalable, and commercially viable solutions.
- Own one or more workstreams and ensure commercially successful conclusion of the engagement.
Qualifications
- Python, Scala, C++ or Java development experience deploying workloads to production.
- Cloud certification: Cloud Developer Associate, Cloud Data Engineer Associate or equivalent, with preference for architect‑level certifications (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect).
- Advanced stakeholder management skills, ability to present complex architectural concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Experience in providing technical leadership, coaching and mentorship to engineering teams.
- Extensive experience in cloud‑based data platforms with deep architectural understanding and delivery across data capture, curation, consumption pipelines using native and Hadoop‑based services.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive technical and architectural assessments, define future‑state architectures and articulate migration strategy.
- Design and build enterprise‑grade cloud data solutions with expertise in storage options (object storage, data lakes, data warehouses) and compute engines (Spark, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, BigQuery).
- Implement and optimise data lake and data warehouse solutions using services such as S3, ADLS, GCS, Snowflake, BigQuery, Synapse Analytics, Kinesis, Event Hubs, Pub/Sub, KMS, KeyVault, ensuring architectural governance.
- Develop logical and physical data models for NoSQL data stores such as CosmosDB, MongoDB, Cassandra.
- Build highly performant, scalable, and reusable ingestion and transformation pipelines using Databricks, AWS Glue, Google Dataflow, Azure Data Factory, or similar.
- Develop event‑based and streaming data ingestion and processing using cloud‑native PaaS services or Apache Kafka.
- Create RESTful and GraphQL APIs for inter‑service and external data exchange.
- Experience in architecting on platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake or similar.
- Agile delivery experience with DevOps practices and tools like Git, Jira, Confluence.
- Experience in data migration activities, including strategy, discovery, mapping, development and reconciliation.
