This role focuses on internal audit delivery within the insurance sector across the UK, aiming to maintain and grow the practice while supporting the development of team members.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee a portfolio of internal audit engagements across the insurance sector, ensuring high-quality delivery, strong client outcomes, and adherence to Deloitte methodologies and professional standards.
- Act as a trusted advisor to Chief Audit Executives, Audit Committees, Board members, Chief Risk Officers, and senior business stakeholders, providing insightful perspectives on governance, risk management, regulatory developments, and control frameworks across the insurance market.
- Direct the planning, execution, and reporting of complex internal audit reviews, thematic assessments, and advisory engagements covering operational, regulatory, financial, technology, conduct, and enterprise risk management topics.
- Lead, coach, and develop engagement teams, fostering an inclusive and high‑performing culture, providing ongoing feedback, mentoring, and supporting career development across the practice.
- Monitor developments across the insurance industry, including regulatory change, emerging risks, market trends, and evolving governance expectations, translating these insights into value‑adding client discussions and solutions.
- Contribute to the growth of the Insurance Internal Audit practice through business development, proposition development, sector eminence activities, thought leadership, and the development of new and existing client relationships.
Skills and Professional Experience
- A graduate degree, minimum 2:1, and/or a relevant professional qualification (e. g., ACA, ACCA, CIA, CISA or equivalent).
- Significant experience delivering internal audit, risk, controls, governance, or regulatory assurance engagements within the insurance sector, including insurers, Lloyd's syndicates, managing agents, brokers, or other financial services organisations.
- Strong understanding of insurance industry risks, governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and emerging market developments, with the ability to provide practical and commercially focused advice to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, including Chief Audit Executives, Chief Risk Officers, Executive Committees, and Audit Committees.
- Strong communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex issues and provide constructive challenge.
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing high‑performing teams, fostering an inclusive culture and supporting colleagues' development.
- Experience supporting business development activities, including proposals, account management, thought leadership, and identifying opportunities to deepen client relationships and grow accounts.
Personal independence: Certain colleagues are required to observe independence constraints, such as limits on financial interests and employment relationships with audit clients.
