Do you want to help shape how Civil Government organisations use AI & Data to deliver better outcomes for citizens? Technology & Transformation: across Civil Government, organisations are under increasing pressure to deliver high‑quality, efficient and accessible public services, while operating within strict regulatory, security and governance frameworks. Data and AI have the potential to transform how services are designed, delivered and improved - but only when solutions are engineered to be scalable, secure and accountable. That is exactly what you will help our clients to achieve.
You will apply AI, machine learning and Generative AI capabilities to address complex policy and operational challenges, helping clients move from isolated use cases to enterprise‑scale, production‑ready AI solutions that deliver measurable public value.
We are seeking to hire experienced AI Engineers within our AI Scaling and Transformation team, a centre of excellence in Deloitte's Engineering, AI & Data service offering. You will work alongside clients, third parties and Deloitte teams across the Firm, supporting Civil Government organisations to design, build and scale AI and Generative AI solutions. This is a client‑facing Manager role where you will combine hands‑on engineering expertise with ownership of delivery workstreams, stakeholder management and solution delivery in secure, regulated environments.
As an AI Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering impactful AI solutions. In this role, you may be expected to:
- Own the delivery of AI engineering workstreams, ensuring outputs are aligned to client objectives, programme timelines and quality expectations.
- Work closely with policy, operations and technology stakeholders to understand business challenges and translate them into practical AI solution designs.
- Design, develop and deploy AI and Generative AI solutions, including machine learning models, data pipelines and application components that are robust, scalable and secure.
- Drive the operationalisation of AI solutions using modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, testing, deployment, monitoring and MLOps.
- Ensure compliance with security, privacy, governance and responsible AI standards, particularly within highly regulated Civil Government environments.
- Collaborate with architects, data scientists, engineers and business analysts to integrate AI solutions into broader digital and data transformation programmes.
- Manage stakeholders and contribute to delivery leadership by tracking progress, managing risks and supporting junior team members.
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate skills and experience in some of the following:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline.
- Proven experience designing, building and deploying AI or machine learning solutions within consulting, public sector or enterprise environments.
- Experience owning technical deliverables or workstreams, managing priorities and coordinating across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong experience engaging with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
- Experience delivering within regulated or secure environments; candidates must be eligible and willing to obtain or hold security clearance for relevant engagements.
BUSINESS & AI PROFICIENCY
- Strong proficiency in Python or similar programming languages used for AI and data engineering, with hands‑on experience building production‑grade solutions.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit‑learn) and end‑to‑end model development and deployment.
- Working knowledge of Generative AI techniques, including large language models, prompt engineering, retrieval‑augmented generation and evaluation methods.
- Experience with MLOps and engineering best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, model versioning, monitoring and automated testing.
- Experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP, using cloud‑native services.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
