The Chief Data Office (CDO) is at the heart of this work, and we are looking for motivated and experienced individuals to play a key role in a new Data Strategy and Governance team. Working to a Principal Data Strategy & Governance Professional, you will be part of a professional, experienced, and engaged team to provide strategic leadership and governance to ensure we govern, manage, and exploit our data to improve customer experience and revenue.

Job Description

The Data Strategy and Governance Team supports the strategic oversight, governance, and integrity so that data can be exploited more effectively and efficiently. The team work closely with data, strategy and governance experts across CDIO and the wider HMRC to drive the execution of the Enterprise Data Strategy, including measuring progress through data maturity assessment and providing expert advice.

You will have a background in data governance, data analytics or data management and have energy and passion complemented by brilliant engagement and communication skills. You will be:

Person Specification

As a Senior Data Strategy & Governance Professional you will be:

  • Leading on data discovery activities as part of a wider team working across HMRC to identify, recommend and evaluate data improvement activities.
  • Working on the design and implementation of practical data governance solutions to support HMRC needs.
  • Identifying opportunities to make recommendations to improve the quality and trustworthiness of data throughout HMRC.
  • Implementing and establishing wider data management competencies within HMRC (such as data quality, metadata management, master data management, data modelling, and development of data standards and data strategy).
  • Working across HMRC to minimise data risks and increase data literacy.
  • Carrying out data maturity assessments for HMRC and working with Data Maturity Champions across the organisation to support improving maturity.
  • Using technology to deliver all aspects of your work including reporting data maturity results.
  • Maintaining data and other sources of information ensuring that the UK GDPR and Information Management Standards are adhered to.
  • Potentially managing Data Governance Professional staff, supporting their technical and personal needs in line with HMRC policy.
  • Experience of data governance or data management and improving data literacy across an organisation.
  • Ability to communicate accurately, clearly and effectively at all levels to influence decision making.
  • Ability to establish professional relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Project Management with a successful track record of collaboration to deliver shared objectives across a Business Group or wider.
  • Relevant professional or academic qualification, such as degree, apprenticeship, and/or DAMA or similar industry recognised qualifications.
  • Experience of data discovery activities to identify, recommend and evaluate data improvement activities.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and solid understanding of compliance and controls.
  • Data literate with experience of the wider Power Platform (including PowerBI, PowerApps and Power Automate)
  • Experience of line management.
